Analysis: Jim Boeheim Faces Biggest One-Year Rebuilding Project of His Career (PS; Carlson)
...
The departures of C.J. Fair, Tyler Ennis, Jerami Grant and Baye Moussa Keita are substantial.
In order to see if this was the biggest loss of talent Boeheim has endured in his 38 seasons, I calculated the percentage of production returning in four key categories (points, rebounds, assists and minutes).
Even if Dajuan Coleman is healthy, next year's team will rank last in points returning and among the bottom five in the other critical statistics.
Syracuse will also rank second-to-last in rebounds returning under Boeheim (34.6 percent), fifth from the bottom in assists (29.1 percent) and third from the bottom in minutes (41.5 percent).
Despite all that, the Orange is No. 21 in USA Today and ESPN's early rankings and No. 22 in NBC's. Syracuse was not ranked by CBS and was recently ranked one of the teams most likely to decline by Athlon Sports.

SU Hoops Fans: Vote for the Best Player to Wear # 3 (PS; Waters)
Who are the best players in Syracuse history by the numbers?
Not the number of points or rebounds or assists, but the numbers on their jerseys?
Now, Carmelo Anthony is the obvious answer at No. 15 and few would argue that Lawrence Moten (No. 21), Dave Bing (No. 22) and Pearl Washington (No. 31) are synonymous with their old jersey numbers. But what about the rest?

SU Hoops Fans: Vote for the Best Players to Wear # 4 (PS; Waters)
Basketball is a game of numbers. Not just points, rebounds and assists. We're talking jersey numbers.
Ask any Syracuse fan who wore No. 15 and you're sure to get an answer of Carmelo Anthony. Number 31? That was Pearl. No. 21? Lawrence "Poetry in'' Moten.

A 30 Second Clock in College Basketball Could Lead to Less Coaching and More Speed (PS; Poliquin)
After he was asked the other day by our own Donna Ditota about the possibility of a 30-second shot clock coming to college basketball, Jim Baron spoke words that should have been accompanied by the "The Halleluiah Chorus."
"We've got a great game, in my opinion," he said. "To try to speed it up is going to take a lot of coaching out of it."
Exactly. Properly. Happily.
Assuming one is a sports fan, he or she would have to have some bad wiring if there was little appreciation for the whole of college basketball. So, Baron, the Canisius coach, was close to being correct when he mentioned "great" and all of that.

Andy Rautins Rehabs From Frankfurt Injury, Sets Sights on Euroleague Basketball (PS; Ditota)
Andy Rautins, four years removed from his final basketball season at Syracuse University, is thinking globally.
The Jamesville-DeWitt and SU graduate spent last season in Germany, playing for the Fraport Skyliners of Frankfurt. He lit up the top German league, averaging nearly 18 points per game and shooting 42.4 percent from the 3-point arc before an ankle injury derailed him. Even now, his 17.6 ppg ranks third among league scorers.
His scoring sprees — he put up games of 20 or more points on several occasions — intrigued professional teams in Europe and in the NBA, according to Rautins and his dad, Leo. As Rautins works to regain the full use of his ankle, decisions await.
Will he go to camp with the Utah Jazz, who have expressed interest? Will he secure a spot on an NBA Summer League team? Will he return to Europe, where he could work out a deal to play in the coveted Euroleague?

Hak's Undermanned Team Falls in $500K Tournament (PS; Waters)
A five-player squad featuring former Syracuse University star Hakim Warrick came up short in this past weekend's $500,000 The Basketball Tournament at Philadelphia University.
Warrick's team, known as TYGTAL, won its opening round game as the 32-team tournament started on Friday. TYGTAL had eight players listed on its roster, but only five played in a 91-84 win over Olivet Nazarene on Friday.
On Saturday, TYGTAL again had just five players as it lost to Illinois Hoopville Warriors 93-71.
