Think about it, if we lose the Conference realignment lotto, with ACC passing, and B1G taking UMD and Rutty, we would be Tulane. We have similar academic profiles. Actually, i think Tulane is a better school academically speaking these days. Plus, well NOLA! Thoughts

NOLA is dump.

BOOOOOO!!!!

It is a great place if you like gumbo, jumbalaya and voodoo.

And public urination, lots of public urination.

Seriously though, any comparison that says Tulane is Syracuse South, is well, just plain stupid. The programs are no where near similar. the only thing they have in common is not relying on the state teat. I mean, what does Syracuse and NOLA have in common? A large mosquito population is the only answer I can think of.

Have some pride dude! We have never been anything like Tulane.

Pretty unbelievable that at one time the Syracuse basketball head coach would consider the job at Tulane to be a step up.

Academically, we've long been considered very similar. Athletically, I don't know: both major Syracuse sports have been too successful in the past 30 years to drop to Tulane's level. Exclusion from a good conference would have hurt us, but not that much. Maybe we'd have fallen to a Memphis level (and that'd be a horrendous academic comparison).

Side note: I have a Masters from Tulane and went to Syracuse undergrad.

I'm all Orange when it comes to the school's competing on the field or the hardwood.

I do have pride. Obviously, I know our sports have been superior in the past 30 years, what imeant was languishing in the AAC, we would essentially gradually become Tulane

Tulane took a step up with the ack. They are only there because it's a dumpster fire of a conference.

Academically I will give you the comparison - I know a few folks who dropped out of our program and transferred there. I guess that probably means it's a step down there to, so maybe I can't give you that.

I think Tulane used to be top 30 academically, maybe top 25.-- the hurricane them up big-time.

Public urination is a trademark of visiting a*horses from out of town. New Orleanians are the nicest, warmest and most accepting people I have ever met. No one would say that about NYer's.
When was SU the most applied to private university in the country?
43,500 for 1,600 slots. #52 top universities US NEWS.
Yes, absurd to compare the 2.
SU is superior in most sports, but today in FB-ROLL WAVE.
PLAY WELL-SU &TU.

Guys, Tulane is/was a safety of SU. I knew plenty of kids who used SU as safety to Cornell and used Tulane as the safety to SU. New Orleans is a great town. It's the visitors that come and pee in the streets. Plenty to do uptown near Tulane, where I used to live (did not attend school, just bars)

This is blasphemous.

Fully agree. And the Cajun/Creole cooking rivals Italian food for flavor and diversity. A stomach and taste buds would be happy in either place.

B...B...B...But we have pee troughs in the Dome...:bang:

I've always viewed Tulane as one of the "non-Ivy Ivies": the schools with a high academic reputations who chose to continue playing big-time football in the two platoon era, usually with dire on-the-field results. Duke, Wake Forest, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Tulane,. Rice and Stanford. You can usually find them at the bottom of the standings of their respective conferences. I never put SU in that group because we tended to be better in football and especially basketball and I didn't think our academic reputation was quite on a par with theirs.

I've always thought it would make some sense for the non-Ivy's to leave their current conferences and join up with the service academies to form a new conference: Air Force, Army, Duke, Navy, Northwestern, Rice, Stanford, Tulane, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. That would have been a good conference over the years and the academic competitions would have been dynamite.

Huh?

Vandy, NW, and for sure Stanford are legit teams. And awake went to the BCS in 2006.

As a life-long Syracuse fan and a Tulane grad, I would say that Tulane is ahead of SU in terms of academics, and that SU is clearly ahead of Tulane in athletics. You are right, both have similar profiles but Tulane is fighting for its life athletically; SU just completed a successful navigation in this conference realignment. Academically Tulane is below the Ivy/Duke/Northwestern/Stanford/etc. level but not by much. Probably on par with Vandy, Rice, etc. in terms of selectivity. SU is probably a notch or two below (but still well ahead of most institutions in this country).

Now if you are going to compare Dinosaur BBQ/State Fair/Lake effect snow/Tip Hill vs. Commanders Palace/Jazz Fest & Mardi Gras/Hurricanes/French Quarter, that really isn't fair. Syracuse is a great place to live; NOLA is a great place to indulge.

I'm looking back over the decades. Stanford has been good and bad at times. Northwestern has been respectable in recent years. They used to be horrible. Wake a brief period of success. Here are the Division 1A winning percentages since two platoon football started in 1964:
http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=1964&end=2012&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win Pct

Air Force is #40, Stanford is #52, Navy #81, Army #96, Wake #100, Tulane #105, Northwestern #106, Duke #107, Rice #108, Vandy #112.
