I currently have TWC for Cable, Internet and Phone. If I switch to Fios will I miss all the December 2011 BB games that are on TWC ? How about todays SU vs Bearcats FB game, would I miss that too ?

Just thought I would ask folks that have FIOS if they miss these games, it will help the decision making process.

Thanks in advance

you'll get the games that are also on SNY, and you'll watchem on SNY. Did FiOs get TWCS?

No, you only miss the exhibitions, and maybe a game or two more. There's an agreement that FIOS carries the TWC-only games on channel 1 or 501 in HD. You can't tape them, and they don't show the pre-game or post-game, and they keep the volume a little low, just to annoy you. But you only miss the pre-season games, and maybe a couple more. In all other respects it's worth it, though. I'm saving $50 a month over Time Warner, I get more channels, faster Internet and a more reliable phone.

Seriously - I was paying over $220/month w/ TWC after a couple years. It kept going up by $10+ a year, whenever ESPN or whomever wanted another rate hike. I was getting (and still get) HBO & Showtime, have 2 DVRs. TV on Time Warner is hideously expensive. They nick you on all that equipment, too. You do pay for it on Verizon, but they don't gouge you quite as bad. I'm still paying in the $175 range per month after all of my discounts have run out.

Matt - I have FIOS in Albany and that is not my experience. Really pissing me off too.

FIOS hooked up today ... saving $70 a month

Internet way faster, picture quality amazing ... kicking myself in ass for not making change sooner

I was paying $176/month for TWC cable/roadrunner/phone here in Rochester, My 18yo son ordered a movie of questionable content and I was pissed that he could even do that so I called TWC and told them to shut it all off in a fit of rage... They offered to reduce my bill to $147. I immediately said "NO JUST TURN IT OFF". The guy said, "what if we were to lower your bill to $127? Ummmm "ok" and that's what I'm paying now.

First to answer you question. I have FIOS and love it (most of the time). Verizon took TWC to court claiming monopoly (I believe) and the court ruled that TWC had to provide feed to FIOS for every regular season game that it broadcasts. Therefore you will not get the exhibition games (altho TWC 'dU and we got the first one but not the St Rose game. The games will be on either 1 or 501 and you can DVR them.

I started with Time Warner at @129 for cable, TV, and phone ... then it went up to 149 ... then it went up to 180 ...and that is what I was paying when I said, "ENOUGH!!". I called Verizon and set up an appointment (at the rate of 129 for everything). I brought all my boxes and wires back to Time Warner. They asked me why I was dropping TW and I told them FIOS was less expensive and they said, "Well if it's the cost we can work something out" and I said, "If you could've worked something out now after I got FIOS why didn't you keep your costs down" ... no reply. Since then I have received at least 5 calls from Time Warner saying they'll give me a deal ... I'm sorry, but my feeling is that if they can offer me these deals now why didn't they just keep their damn rates down in the first place ... b/c in many areas they are a monopoly b/c FIOS isn't available so they can rip those people off with high rates!!

With FIOS I have 3 boxes - 1 a DVR that can be played on the bedroom box as well. The internet is faster... the picture is better ... and I am very happy right now. The only inconvenience is that I have to dial the area code no matter where I am calling (even locally) b/c the phone is digital ... but Duh... I can handle it.

"You can't tape them"

If by "tape" you mean DVR, there is no restriction. I DVR all the Cuse Basketball and Football games on 501.

I would switch in a heartbeat but they dont have Fios on Onondaga Hill yet so I am stuck with TW.

I'd switch to FIOS in a heartbeat if I could convince my friend/landlord into switching. I can't see how anything could be as bad as TWC. Their tech support and customer service are horrendous.

Dont they got the fios deal goin on for the tv phone and net fir 99 bucks a month for 2 years?
Yes that is for basic FIOS ...for the 129 I have 3 boxes and a dvr that is hooked to the upstairs box. It should be noted that with FIOS you also get, I believe, Showtime (terrible btw) and 1 other 2-3 channel premium. FIOS is moving in on TW big time ... I asked the rep and he said that everytime they put FIOS in an area they have an unbelievable sign-up ... they can't put FIOS in fast enough.

what they both need is competition from each other to keep the rates down to respectable levels. Time warner got way out of hand
