Well, this season will soon be H2O under the bridge. The good news is that we will only lose one more game this season. Looking forward, it is patently obvious that the Cooney-G 2g combo doesn't work at a championship caliber level. I loved Cooney coming out of HS. I lost faith in him last season, and I was skeptical about his early season success, but I was coming around and ready to admit that I was wrong. Unfortunately, my skepticism has proven to be correct. In watching Trevor, it is apparent, he is a one trick pony. His overall game is limited. His athleticism is limited. He struggles to get good looks on his trey shot. If you watched yesterday's game, Ennis made it look so easy to get space from his dribble & get off a trey attempt whenever he wanted to. Why can't Trevor do that ? 95% of his dribbling is E to W & not N to S. He may improve incrementally, but we clearly won't win a NC if he is a 30 MPG 2G. He just will never be a very good, consistent game in game out player who just has the occaisional off game (to be expected) from long range scorers. Looking ahead, big key is if Ennis comes back. Then maybe Joseph can play some 2G. Supposedly Joseph can hit the trey amongst other things. Gotta give any of the Sons that return a serious look. Trevor should be a 10 to 15 MPG spark off the bench. That's what his role should be at this level. As for G, he should just be a defensive specialist for 5 to 10 MPG. There has to be consistent 15 to 20 PPG scoring from the 2g position. Next year the need will be greater because we lose CJ up front and some of those points will need to come from the backcourt. Plus we will need more overall points if we are to be a serious contender. There has to be somebody who can play backup 2g & be an O spark off the bench. Truthfully, Cooney should be that backup 2G spark & somebody else should be the starter. Maybe Malachi can be the savior. He can't get here soon enough.
