So having had 24 hours to cool off, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m pretty ok with where we are at now. Would I have preferred 6-0 and top 10? There is a part of me that we didn’t beat Clemson because that would have increased the chance of a name program stealing away Babers before we really see his vision in action... but admittedly that’s a pretty small part of me.
Yes the loss yesterday sucks, but you know what, I don’t think Pitt is that bad. Anyone else think UCF might be that good? Anyways, rivalry game, on the road... it’s never going to be an easy win.
I know a lot of folks are down on the offense and defense coordinators right now but I’m actually pretty happy with them. The defense was in great position to stop Pitt yesterday but the players couldn’t make plays. Coaches can only do so much... the last mile is up to the players. On offense it’s the same story... for as great of a football player as Dungey is, he missed potential game winning plays both last week and this week. He’s the same instinctual player he has been for 4 years... unfortunately while he is physically impressive player I don’t think he’s progressed at all in terms of being.a passing qb. My guess is Babers knows this and schemes the offense around Dungey and that is why we see so little variety and we don’t use the middle of the field. Babers is trying to do what he can to give his guys the best shot to win. I think next year we see the real Babers O.
In the long run the success of this program is going to come down to whether Babers can recruit ACC talent on the lines and LB. I think Babers is trying to figure that out in the long run as well. I don’t think we see a Babers extension this year because Babers isn’t going to sign one. I think he waits to see how recruiting goes and if I had to bet I’d say he walks at the end of next year. That’s just my bet based on gut and nothing else.
All I can say is that it feels good to be a team that any coach outside of saban would lose sleep over playing. We haven’t been able to say that since Marrone’s last year. I am just going to enjoy the ride this year and next and see what happens. Back in my younger days I needed cuse sports to be good and for the most part they were. Now I have more stuff in my life going on and that lets me just enjoy the wins and not care about the losses. So my advice is if you can enjoy the ride.
