1) Mark Coyle was SU athletic director for exactly one year -- the year that both our men's and women's teams went to the Final Four. (2015-16)).

2) Mark Johnson was SU's basketball announcer for exactly one year -- the year we won the National Championship. (2002-03).

Talk about two lucky "one and dones."

you want another oddity. i once got so wasted as a student that i wandered around skytop for almost 2 hours because i couldn't find my apartment because it's so spread out and they all look the same. i was eventually found and it was like i was adrift on a raft for 30 days.

Mark Johnson was with SU for more than one year. Three per his bio at Univ of Colorado. But his timing was impeccable.

Once, in 1987, I got drunk at Pat O'Brein's in New Orleans. We then went off to a piano bar. I spent the rest of FF weekend trying to find the piano bar to show my buddy. Turns out, it was part of Pat O'Brien's, which I had never left in the first place.

That place is huge. Home of the hurricane! There was a guy who must have been 90 who played a tray with change on it like a tambourine. I think it has 4 or 5 separate bars at peak season.

Yeah, it was hurricaning that night. To make matters more odd, we stayed at my buddy's cousin's confirmed bachelor pad, and woke up to 2-3 guys in French sailor outfits eating beignets for breakfast.
Other than Keith Smart, one of my best weekends.

My parents still have a VCR of me and my buddy (now my brother-in-law of 28 years) hanging off a tree on Bourbon Street, leading cheers to about 100 people. Also, Roger Springfield let us carry equipment to get into a packed bar. (Didn't know he was such a perve back then.)
As I said, a great weekend.
