On a positive note, "Former Syracuse guard Tyler Ennis was back in the NBA Development League on Friday night with the Bakersfield Jam. Ennis scored 17 points and had five assists in Bakersfield's 109-97 win over the Idaho Stampede on Friday. The Suns sent Ennis down for his third stint in Bakersfield after he had played once in his last 11 games since being recalled to Phoenix on Dec. 31. For the season, Ennis has played in seven games with the Suns averaging 3.1 points and 7.9 minutes. He's struggled to find playing time behind starters Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe and backup Isaiah Thomas. Ennis left the Orange after a stellar freshman season and was the No. 18 pick in the first round by Phoenix."

Go Tyler. Next year (or the year after that?) in Turkey/Greece/Poland.

Good God--things have gotten so bad that to get to a "positive note", we have to resort to one of the top-5 point guards in the history of our program getting 5 assists in the D-League??? Just shoot me now.

Meanwhile, in Syracuse, NY: Kaleb Joseph has 3 points and 2 assists with 2 turnovers vs. Miami.

Until next year. What might he have gotten then?

Would have to be better than $3 million to make up the difference. Only 5 rookies did better than $3 million this year.

People make agenda posts to feel better

Arinze is averaging 19.1 points , 13.1 rebounds per game in the D League for Canton while shooting .652.

He consistently ranks in the top 10 in numerous categories - many actually in the top 5.

I really hope AO can land a 10 day contract at least with somebody soon in the Association. He's really been beasting this season in the D-League and with the amount of injuries piling up for so many teams, you gotta imagine that somebody could use his services.

He was being courted by the Philippine League for big money when negotiations stopped because NBA teams were interested in him.

I feel for him because he's certainly skilled enough but the issue is defense. He's not tall enough to guard most NBA 5's and not quick enough to play the 4. Classic tweener. Like you, I hope he finds an NBA team where he fits in and thrives.

how on earth did i miss that on SPORTSCENTER ?

And $1.5 million poorer.

For a 6'2 PG with limited athleticism, it's best to come into the league ready to play. They can write you off pretty quickly. See Pearl.

Pearl is on record saying he wished he stayed at Cuse for his senior year.

Not if staying in college longer lead to him coming into the league more prepared to contribute. Getting to the league quicker and flaming out within a couple years is not better than coming into the league later and lasting longer.

We'll never know if that would have been the case. But coming in ready to contribute would've improved his chances of sticking. Nobody in the NBA is waiting with baited breath on a late first rounder that's in the D-League...they'll move on in a hurry.

Because the Suns will cut him? Come on.

Doubtful. Though they gave up on Kendall Marshall after 1 season after drafting him 13th.

We've had our share of 1st round guys disappear from the league within a few years: Dave Johnson(1 1/2 years), Fab Melo(cup of coffee), Donte Greene(4 years), Flynn(3 years). It happens a lot. Next year is big for Ennis.

Not sure about Dave Johnson, but at least in the cases of Fab, Donte, and Jonny they all received payment for the full three guaranteed years of their contracts since thy were 1st rounders.

Certainly a good thing. They got paid, and hopefully were/are being smart with that money.

I do think if Fab and Donte had more well developed games upon entering the league, they would've each had a better chance to stick in the league for much longer than they did. Being out of the league by age 23 was certainly not what was hoped for in either case. Even for late first rounders, once a guy gets a bad rap it's pretty much over for them.

Some of the "you have to go no matter what as soon as you're sure you'll get drafted, start the earning clock immediately!" crowd on here have pointed out that John Wallace came back to school and greatly improved his game in that year, and yet his NBA stock stayed the same. True enough, but Wallace also lasted in the NBA for 7 seasons which isn't bad at all for a late first rounder and likely would not have happened if he left too early. Junior John Wallace would've gotten no run at all in the NBA and may have never gotten the chance to show he belonged. As it is, he lasted several seasons longer than Donte did because his skills were further developed and he had more to his game, despite having some of the same exact limitations as Donte(too small to guard 4's, too slow to guard 3's).

This is not a judgement on his decision, but maybe if he'd hung around another season or two he would have been. As it is, Ennis had 1 decent season and quarterbacked one of the worst late season meltdowns we've ever had to witness. He was unwilling or unable to run a fast break and (according to some here) was unwilling or unable to feed the post. I wouldn't put him in my top 10. All of the guys listed below had at least one season better than Ennis.
