It's a foreign concept to most everyone now, but remember the whole presumption of innocence thing?  Melo has academic problems.  We don't know the rest.  I admire JB for talking the talk and walking the walk when it comes to not assuming the worst of people.  
 
Why do we make so many negative assumptions about people?  Media hype is part of the problem, poor journalism giving the aura of facts, and a poor record of enforcement (loss of faith in the system to ensure justice).  Regardless, I think giving the benefit of the doubt is not only better for personal social relationships, but also because John Adams, GW, TJ, etc. all introduced this crazy idea that our country would allow 100 guilty people free to ensure 1 innocent person is not wrongfully punished.  
 
I understand my response goes beyond the nature of this thread topic, but I think it's important that JB goes into protect and defend mode first, until the facts show otherwise.
