Tyus Battle defies convention, loves the ‘dying’ midrange jumper

This just defies logic. The stats even show how stupid the logic is...dang

Two point shots that go in are worth more than three point shots that don't. the "3 or bust" approach makes sense in the NBA where most of the non-centers are good three point shooters, (and some great). But in college there's a lot of guys like Ty and Oshae who are mediocre, (there's that word again!) or worse from the arc and can fill it up from within it. You've got to take the shots you can score with.

Our all-time leading scorer, Lawrence Moten, was a mediocre three point shooter, (31.6%)
Lawrence Moten
he got his points by moving, moving, moving: inside and out, around, cutting through, working the baseline, etc., daring defenders to keep up with him. That's the way college basketball should be played, not this static jack-it-up-or-dunk-it-in game we see now.

In ACC play,

We've been outscored in the "Inner Sanctum" by 10 points

We've been outscored in the "Outer Limits" by 6 points

But we've won "The Twilight Zone by 76 points. That's our game.

They cannot "fill it up from within it"

Brissett is a career 40% shooter from 2 which obviously includes easy shots around the basket

Battle is a career 47% shooter from two which includes all his drives which he's fantastic at

yeah, it's basic expected values.

who are these people who shoot 50% from 15 feet and under 33% from three? People aren't getting fouled on mid range jumpers much, we can ignore that.

I think Battle can, he just ends up taking ridiculously hard 2s, which sadly are often our best scoring opportunity.

why are they asking little gerry about midrange jumpers ? 1131 trey attempts to 551 inside.

that goldsberry article showed melo's best scoring year. these guys here aren't better at mid range jumpers than him.

I love and appreciate this part of his game. Some people dismiss the midrange game while we watch teams combine for 20/70 from three. I’ve watched a ton of games this year with both teams shooting under 25% from three.

I believe Ty will become a better 3pt shooter as a pro when he’s not being handchecked and bumped all game. His drving and midrange could be even more lethal and he’ll get more room.

That's great if your Melo. Most college shooters are more like Ty.
