UCLA hires Keith "Thump" Belton as S&C Coach

Apparently our boy was head strength coach for the Mavs. Got canned today.

Wow did not put two and two together when ESPN had the bombshell Mavs dysfunction article two weeks ago.

Beltons going to be the fall guy

But why was an NFL / College Football guy hired for the NBA to begin with?

Nico Harrison is going to go down as one of the worst GMs of all time
Him having a background in football doesn't disqualify him from training basketball players. Jordan used the same personal trainer for baseball as he did for basketball and the guy changed his program based on the sport. A S&C at that level (on most levels really) should have enough knowledge to train a number of sports.

I agree but it appears he didn’t have the S&C certifications required.

“As ESPN reported in April, Belton did not have the certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association that the NBA's collective bargaining agreement states are required to be employed as a strength coach for a team.”

The above is contained in this article. Sources: Mavs fire top health, performance staff

When I first read that I was wondering how he ever got hired or how the league allowed it.

Ok. I didn't read the article. I'm surprised he could get hired at UCLA without that.
