So I am out of market (NC) and the regional CBS game I'll be getting on Sat is the UNC/UVa game. I have direct TV and it does show the SU game being on channels 390 CBSe and 391 CBSw but does anybody know if these alternate feeds actually work? I know for regular programming they don't but I have never tried them for a game.

A couple of weeks ago I was worried about not getting cbs games due to regional coverage and I found out that via cbs.com you can actually watch an alterative feed online live, but the problem this week is that I'll be working so I won't have ability to watch it live and would try to record. In the past when games were on cbs and not the regional broadcast not even any bars in the area were able to pick it up.

Has anybody had any experience with these out of market cbs broadcasts so far this year? Thanks

Yes, 390 and 390 still work. I;ve watched a couple games that way this year. You need to use 390-1 and 391-1 for the HD feed btw.

Really? Here in the Charlotte area I've been unable to do this and have been a Directv customer for years. How do you get it done? Contractually/legally the local affiliate is bound by the Jefferson Pilot/Raycom Sports agreement and won't allow the provider to pick up another CBS affiliate. (Although a few years back if you had the Directv Sports Pack you could get them occasionally on channel 615 & 616, but they did away with that).

These channels are greyed out. It's an annual problem every year SU plays on CBS...it completely sucks and I hate it. At least this week UNC vs. UVA is actually a decent game, usually you get something like Wake Forest vs. Miami, Clemson/Va Tech or some very low interest/3rd tier type game that ESPN, ABC, etc. doesn't pick up.

I've even tried hitting the local sports bars, but same deal...basically out of luck.

Now that I checked, I was looking at stations 728 and 729 (728-1 and 729-1 for HD). They always seem to be moving things around. See if those show up for you. Sorry for the confusion.

Saturday is a regional feed? We have it out here in AZ.

I've had it work sometimes and I've had it be blacked out (haven't checked this year). I'm always nervous for the CBS games but DirectTV is listing Syr/UConn on my local channel in Illinois so I'm hoping there's no issue.

I am going to be in China for this game. I wasn't too concerned originally because I thought it was an ESPN game and I could just watch on ESPN3... Anyone have ideas on how I can watch the game over there? Unfortunately, I do not have sling box...

Thanks, I'll check those channels. I'm still not too optimistic however due to my past experience here in Charlotte...it's a bit confusing at times. Because of the local affiliates pull/strong hold since it's owned by Jefferson-Pilot, it only works when CBS broadcasts split regional games and when SU is considered the "out of market" game.

Therefore, if SU vs. Uconn is not the "out of market" game it'll be blacked out. This is also the case even if the game is a sole national broadcast due to the local affiliates JP/Raycom Sports ownership/contract.

OP seemed to think it was regional.

I don't think it is, I believe it's national...though I could be wrong. The OP likely also resides in the Charlotte market...which is so fortunately exclusive.

Cbssports.com streams all of the games that are on CBS. It is the equivalent of ESPN3 and that will be your only way to watch it if your in Charlotte. It stinks, but at least its better than nothing.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I'll be streaming...

FYI...channels 728 & 729 on DirecTV are the paid ESPN Full Court stations.
Also, the game is on locally here in ATL on DirecTV ch 46

For those in Charlotte. There is a small group of us driving down to the Applebee's in Gaffney SC on Saturday right off 85. They pick up CBS out of Spartanburg, not WBTV, and our game is on down there. Go Cuse!!!

I remember one time I said to my wife let's go to those outlet shops in Gaffney you've been wanting to go to...of course it was on a Saturday the 'Cuse was playing and dealing with the same scenario...she was cool about it and played along...

I am also in the NC market. The CBS games in the past have been the only ones I have trouble getting. Even the sports bars that can get any other games have problems getting the CBS regional games. Something about DirecTV only letting them use the local feed and not a feed from another region.

Now, in the past it has always been a regional CBS game up against a regional CBS Big10 or ACC game. The difference this time is it is a national CBS game. The problem is the local CBS affiliate will be playing the local Raycom production of the UNC/UVA. Not sure if that means DirecTV will be able to supply a feed from another region or not.

Looked online and there are 2 CBS channels (non-HD) listed for TimeWarner. One is showing the UNC/UVA and the other is showing Syracuse/UCONN. Will have to see if I get this channel when I get home tonight. If not, I will be watching on cbs.com

728 and 729 are also available with the Sports Pack. Also, 728 and 729 are the only Full Court stations that have an HD alternative.

Interesting...I did not know that. I have the Sports Pack, but I thought all the channels in the 700's were the ESPN Full Court, NBA, MLB etc pay per views. Thanks for the info.

To get 390 & 391 on Directv you need the distant network package. I get it automatically because I live in a rural area that previously did not have local channel availability. Even though we now have the local channels on Directv, I'm grandfathered into the distant network package. I've opted to keep it & forego the locals, mainly because of situations like this & the fact that 390 & 391 are HD & the locals here in Southern Oregon are not.:)

Yeah sorry, I was incorrect about it being regional, my terminology was incorrect because I was more or less referring to fact that I was stuck with UNC/UVA game and not going to get the SU national broadcast. Yes I'm also in charlotte so looks like I'm screwed if I'll be unable to watch the cbs stream online :(
