Typically, the top guy, CEO, type etc. isn't the one with the most technical expertise and knowledge, but rather garnishes that information from his/her subordinates, etc. and ultimately renders the most crucial/critical decisions. He has proven that he doesn't possess that main skill set and capability on the field either, certainly not when the pressure seems to be on. IMO, other than his good natured disposition and ethical stewardship for the university, he doesn't bring much to the table relative to the main qualities required to win (consistently) at the P5 level.
