Then as mentioned earlier, fans behind the Temple bench began throwing stuff onto the Temple bench. Temple players jumped up onto the railing and started swinging their helmets at the fans who were throwing just about everything. Got real ugly fast. Both coaches pulled their teams from the field and as the Temple team was going through the tunnel, fans started throwing beers, etc. again. A couple of Temple players climbed up into the stands and started swinging. Finally, the field was cleared.

After about 30 minutes or so, the teams came back out to finish the game. Before the restart, however, SU was flagged for two 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalties, which, as you can imagine, didn't thrill the fans. From then on, it was a continual LOUD boo through the end of the game. It's one of those weird moments you just don't forget.

That was many, many years ago, so some of my detail may be off a bit, but I believe it's a fairly close rendition of what happed that day. I also remember the picture the next day in the sports section of paper, show the Temple players in the stands swinging their helmets. Till this day, I still cannot find anything online related to this incident.
