Following is article link that says Miami is not talking formally or informally with another conference Univ of Miami is pleased to be part of the ACC:

Hurricanes athletic director Shawn Eichorst released a statement Friday saying, among other things, that Miami has "not engaged in any formal or informal discussions with any other conferences" and that the school continues to believe in the appeal and strength of the ACC.
The Hurricanes began play in the ACC in 2004.

"We could not be more proud than to call the ACC our home," Eichorst wrote in a statement. "We are confident in our progress and in our accomplishments, yet there is still much work to be done. We are committed to the ACC and to doing our part to continue the tradition of excellence across the board. In that regard, we have not engaged in any formal or informal discussions with any other conferences."
Finally good to hear at least one school is pleased to be in the ACC...and Miami is important to the conference!

yes i so trust ADs these days

In other words...ACC please don't punish us for our past indiscretions and we'll stay.

I really don't see the advantage of Miami leaving and to be honest, they may flourish if FSU leaves.

Florida State says it is not negotiating with the Big 12, and university president Eric Barron said earlier this month one of the reasons for that is because the Seminoles "would lose the rivalry with University of Miami that does fill our stadium."

I've been wondering about the FSU-Miami rivalry in all this talk. That would have to be a casualty of an FSU move to the Big XII, so the calculus for just how profitable it would be to make said move gets even more complicated.

Nice to see Miami standing up.

Yeah, but what do you want people to do.

Say nothing and rumours heat up. Say something and people assume you're lying.

Miami is important to the ACC, but they could be hit with massive penalties from the NCAA investigation that could cripple football for a few years. For the Big 12, FSU and Clemson as well as ND seem to be the top choices for expansion, not Miami.

And, as every Big East school has learned over the past decade (remember Donna Shalala swearing her allegiance to the BE before Miami left) don't believe anything ADs or Presidents say. Only believe their actions.

aye, good point, but you know if the Big 12 put up an offer tomorrow and it was lucrative for the Canes it would be bye bye. As with any other school. Its with in the realm of possibility you have Clemson and FSU jockeying for leverage i would guess.

The NCAA has ZERO power over football anymore. If anyone thinks they do, please proceed to remove your head from the sand..

I don't necessarily believe that's true. Short term a lucrative offer looks attractive but how will it look long term?

People make it seem like every school has jumped at the 'best' offer but that's not true. Texas and Oklahoma are still where they are even though the Pac 12 and SEC were in talks with both of them last year. They would've made more money in either of those conferences than they are making now.

So far moves have made sense, geographically and financially. The only teams that have jumped conferences that haven't made any sense are the Big East moves.

That's the problem with this whole thing:

XYZ University says "We will listen to anyone. Our allegiance is what is ever best for our school" = XYZ University is unequivocally leaving
XYZ University says "We have not approached or been approached. We like where we're at" = XYZ University is unequivocally leaving
XYZ University says nothing = XYZ University is unequivocally leaving (see Rutger's rivals posts about the "silence is deafening")

When did Miami ever swear allegiance to the Big East? In 2003 there were tons of articles that Miami had made its displeasure with the Big East known for years. Some of that led to Tranghese trying to get the ACC to take the footballs schools for an ACC football conference.

Miami is in many ways like SU and other ACC private, expensive schools.

Football is an important marketing, PR tool to promote the university.

But more important than the football team, is the brand of the university.

Association with schools like UNC, UVA, Duke, GT and so on promotes/colors their academic brand.

Miami has a lot of students and alumni and donors in the north: one of the reasons they wanted SU and BC to join them in the ACC in 2003. I would guess the mid-Atlantic is also another area where alumni and potential students are located.

It would be surprising if a private, expensive school like UM wants to be associated with WVU and schools in Iowa, Kansas, OK or TT, Baylor, TCU.
