I looked at the 25 teams currently ranked by the AP
10 teams have rotation players who have missed 5 or more games due to injury, illness, suspension, or eligibility issues. That's a 40% chance that trouble may occur at some point in the year. Some losses are certainly more crippling than others.
Bold = Lost for season
1. Florida (Wilbekin, Hill, Carter, C. Walker)
3. Arizona (Ashley)
4. Syracuse (Coleman)
7. Louisville (Behanan, Ware)
9. Creighton (Gibbs)
16. Michigan (McGary)
18. Michigan State (Payne, Dawson)
19. UNC (Hairston, McDonald)
20. Iowa (Oglesby)
23. SMU (Moreira)
I don't know if injuries are more prevalent than in past years. It does seem that off-the-court issues are rising, however. But the takeaway, I suppose, is that adversity is more the norm than the exception.
