a 16-0 run by NC State.
Shooting under 25%
How do players get to this level of competition and shoot at a lower percentage than most high school teams?
And it's not a problem just with this year's team.
When is the last time we had a good shooting team?

The last good shooting team? 2009-2010. That team was an excellent shooting team.

5 years ago - as I thought, it's been a while.
Makes you wonder why that is.

11-12 wasn't a bad shooting team either.

Finishing the first half with Joseph taking 3 long jumpers really turned the tide...not in a good way. Not blaming him for a 17-0 run, but up 8, that wasn't exactly what we needed. Probably the opposite of what we needed.

I had the same thought - everything went south after the first one he missed when we were up 8 and then they hit a 3 to cut it to 5.
The announcers even talked about it how often that seems to happen - an ill advised shot followed by a 3 for the other team.
It does seem that was the point where the game turned.
Can't blame KJ totally though - doesn't explain why nobody else was able to score or how it seemed they figured out how to attack our defense.

Worst SU offensive team since at least 1996-97. This team consistently has looong droughts where they just cannot score. Poor shot selection, tons of misses of wide open looks, missed bunnies at the rim. Can't remember another SU team that was so offensively challenged.

In the middle of offensive droughts, I get to the point where I just yell SOMEBODY SCORE as loud as I can at the tv. I think my upstairs apartment neighbors have heard that quite a bit this season.

Our guards were awful again today, you aren't going to win many games when your are badly outplayed in the back court.

This was definitely in my view the worst collective performance by the guards this season in a season of some really poor backcourt performances. They looked completely overmatched today.

Today was an odd one.

Patterson gets a steal, immediately bounce passes it directly to NC State. You can throw in that other What turnover right after he entered the game.

Cooney misses one of the easiest to see 'as-it-develops' lobs to Roberson ever...then with an open look still available, passes it to NC State. A drive and dish from 2 feet away right into Rak's right eye follows a bit later.

Joseph takes three long jumpers to end the first half. One may have been a shot clock issue.

G, ever since that Duke game has been amazingly pedestrian.

They all had plenty of What moments.

We definitely lack playmakers.

BJ started last game, hardly any minutes this game. He and Joseph went through a 'Freaky Friday' minute exchange the last two games. :)

Rak missing shots he normally makes...

Oh well - season's over, and they all played their hearts out - last three games though, utterly painful at times to watch. Better days await next year - I hope! LGO!

up 8 with the ball too

someone who's not as lazy as me should look up the ESPN play by play to get a +/- on the scoring margin in the last 5 mins of the first half and first five mins of the 2nd half this year. From what I've seen it would astronomically bad.

Its not a surprise to me. The other teams often struggle with the zone but they eventually figure it out and they know we have no other defense to go to. So usually what happens is the other team starts making shots and our offense cant keep up. Its not like we were lighting it up vs virginia or nc state when we were up..they were just shooting worse. once they correct, we cant keep up.

That's what was so frustrating on both of those games - we were shooting under 30% and still had a sizable lead on both teams.
If we'd been able to shoot somewhere in the 35-40% range, we would have had them in a much deeper whole for them to climb out of.

Michael Patrick agrees.

This. Most years, we have plenty of offense to extend leads. In the last two or three, it's been a struggle.

I expect next year's team to be much improved on offense. It will be amazing to see the offense do it's job and take the heat off of the defense.
