Great two page article in the NYTimes today about Urban Meyer and how he picked his assistant coaches. This is not meant to start a like/dislike Urban discuss, or a OhioSt vs Syr thing. One minor point was that Stan Drayton is one his coaches.
1) Meyer, while an analyst, he kept a list of potential assts, key was that " he knew his next staff would not be stocked with loyal assistants who understood the Meyer way, they would be relative strangers"
2) all were experienced, at all levels, from high school to NFL
3) turned down big name guys
4) wanted coaches with local ties, who understood Buckeye tradition. Background checks
5) manual for coaches, with details-recruiting, schedules, weight training
6) had assistants practice how they would practice. staff hours, family night dinners coaches/families/players
interesting stuff, if someone can find it online, good read
