"Oh, and ... hello there, Syracuse and USF. Both offenses were abjectly terrible in 2014 -- Syracuse ranked 110th in Off. S&P+, and USF ranked 116th -- but there was an interesting change in intent. (That, or it was just really easy for defenders to tackle their ball-carriers. Let's not rule that out.) "

I think connelly is reaching here using % solo tackles as a proxy for how spread out you are. if you're any good at it, you should make guys miss in space and get tackled by more guys down field if at all

but it's interesting how often our guys are brought down by 1 guy

its one thing to have a solo tackle.. its another to make someone miss.. you can do both on the same play. where are the solo tackles being made is a key. if you throw it 50 yds its almost always a solo tackle. you can make 3 guys miss in the backfield and still have a solo tackle too.. a team that gets solo tackled 10 yds down field is gonna look better than one that has it happen for 2 yd losses but the stat wont mean anything.

they must have the stats on where the first contact takes place, that should tell you more about how well your offense is working. add in YAC too.. who cares if 1 or 3 guys stop the play as long as you go forward more than backwards.
