Got a chance to watch John Brooks yesterday. He’s been an absolute rock at the back for Wolfsburg and it’s really nice to be reminded of how good he is when he’s fully fit. They got boat raced by a surging Bayern at the Allianz but they’ve been one of the best defensive sides in the league (particularly against set pieces). He has to be one of our CBs when WC qualifying rolls around.

Also been sick with the flu all weekend so got a chance to binge Sunderland Til I Die on Netflix. Was hoping to see more of Lynden Gooch but they were more reliant on older players while trying to survive relegation from the Championship. He did just sign a 4 year extension at Sunderland and he’s featuring regularly for them in League One. They should be back in the Championship next season but that table is unpredictable. If you want to see a crazy bottom half of a table, the battle for survival in League One is nuts. The entire bottom 10 is in danger of falling into the drop zone if results go against them on a weekend.
