The back 3 experiment with wing backs was a harmless disaster in a friendly but we definitely don’t have the wing defenders to pull that off. I hope he doesn’t outsmart himself and continue to force Adams to play the hybrid RB/CDM role. He’s a true box to box midfielder so forcing him to drop into the RB position when we transition back defensively really limits his creativity. I also don’t necessarily think RB is our biggest problem with Yedlin able to play that role and Cannon coming through the ranks as well.

At the end of the day the Gold Cup doesn’t really matter and none of these friendlies matter. I’m probably just biased because Berhalter wasn’t the coach I wanted and so far we’ve looked incredibly passive under him. I know the guys are still learning and these things don’t happen overnight but I was hoping to be more optimistic at this stage.
