When people say it decided the game it's mostly semantics - people are prone to exaggeration when talking sports.  I'm sure if you nailed them down they would just say it impacted the game - to whatever extent.  It's like when you say that was the greatest shot ever while watching a game - chances are you don't mean it was literally the greatest shot ever (unless you're Bill Walton).

Officials are on the court too though, so it's all a major part of the equation that gets analyzed...

Michigan State probably shouldn't have been a 7 seed.  UVA was a 1 or a 2.  What was the Vegas line? UVA giving up 3 points?

You think UVA was supposed to win by 20 or something?  It was expected to be a close game.  UVA won a game with 45 points this year - they're not blowing any decent team out most nights.
