As the ACCN thread has taken a side road into deep discussion regarding an old foe/rivalry, this thread is dedicated to analysis and discussion of their virtues and shortcomings. Feel free to discuss pros and cons, bash, praise, cut-down, lift-up, pick apart, whatever you like so long as it relates to VATech.

NASA you are the board assassin if I want to read a post directed a tearing a team down or with Oklahoma to the big ten your the guy.

Beautiful country - beautiful campus.
A declining empire. When Beamer is gone there will be turmoil in the empire.
They took our place in the ACC thus, I hate the angry turkeys.
Can't wait until we play them again.

I remember the games in the Big East. A rivalry was possibly brewing. However, Syracuse was on the decline and VPI was on the incline so I am not exactly sure they have actually been to the same levels of Syracuse football. Today, I remain ambivalent regarding VATech, if they play Syracuse or a team I like, I will watch. Their rankings are unimpressive because I know as soon as the play a quality team, they will lose.

I know Beamer built his empire playing weak teams and winning, losing the big games but getting praise for racking up wins. This plan worked so well for Beamer, Schiano took playing pansies to a new low and actually got Rutgers to 10 wins. Schiano believed his own press and took off for the NFL and the house of cards fell quickly. VATech could face the same issue when Beamer retires. They no longer can load up with Monroe and Madison and directional state U. The ACC has several decent to high caliber teams and they must now play P5 teams, too. The house of cards may be crumbling and the emperor is being exposed as wearing no clothes.

As was mentioned in another thread, Clemson has recently resurged, allegedly due to Tahj Boyd. Their defense is op 10 and over looked and their offense is in good shape after losing so much talent. Compare to VPI and they have had no offense unless a member of the crime family Vick was running it. This is a three-decades issue for Beamer.

Not getting the level of recruits they used to. London has done a great job of taking recruits that used to go to Tech. Defense will be very good again but the offenses has issues. Much like last year. Just named Brewer, transfer from Texas Tech, staring quarterback. Situation reminds me a lot of Drew Allen. I think they'll be in trouble.

I will take Virginia Tech's last decade over Clemson's last decade and its not even close.
Boyd has been Clemson's guy during their turnaround. Clemson has always recruited well .
Clemsoning defined
The act of delivering an inexplicably disappointing performance, usually within the context of a college football season.
Oklahoma State's overtime loss to an unranked Iowa State was a full-blown Clemsoning.

I don't like VPI because of Marc Warner and 2003, but you can't claim they aren't a top 25 program. Logan Thomas killed them the last 3 years, but their defense is always good. Beamer has been feeling heat but they are a better program than Clemson IMO.

If they can find a QB, they have a very good chance at winning their division this year. We thought we got lucky when ND lost a few key players, Va tech has to go play a top 5 Ohio St. team that was a national title contender in the Hourseshoe and all of a sudden their all american QB is out for the year. What looked like a possible blowout, could become a nice victory. Nice boost for the ACC if they can go in there and win

VT recently had 8 consecutive years with double digit wins. Even when we were good we only managed to go 7 out of 11 with at least 9 wins (the old standard prior to 12 game regular seasons).

And yes, I know, we scheduled tougher. But no one outside of Orange fans cares.

Here's hoping this season brings us the first of a long run of double digit win years. Hard to imagine that the last double digit win year was 2001.

Cheers,
Neil

Some say Florida Atlantic has the worst color combination in college football but I think the orange and maroon of the Hokies is worst. It looks like sumac poop.

HEY! Careful now, don't lump James Madison in with the rest of the directional state U's. As you will recall, JMU beat Tech a couple of years ago.

That may be true - but I'd buy Clemson and sell VPI moving forward, and it's not close.

All I know is: those uniforms tomcat posted makes me appreciate the GRob era mismatched all Orange unis.

Plus I have the perfect tailgate spot identified already but we don't play there until the next decade, What?

Tom - I think you posted Florida A&M. And they are horrific. Florida Atlantic is below - borrowing the Oregon wing thing

Wow. Taking ugly to new lows. Let's cross our fingers that they don't add the Oregon feathers.

Clemsoning has been replaced...You are dated and unhip if you use this term...

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Palmering&defid=7185924

Palmering (as in Jesse Palmer of ABC/ESPN and the Bachelor) - (verb) 1. The act of repeatedly disrespecting a team, coaching staff, and entire fan-base with blatantly biased statements over an event which happened "just two years ago"; 2. Simultaneously, inexcusably losing respect from peers, colleagues, and strangers alike. 3. Acting like a total douche-bag. 4. Over use of the word Clemsoning

Jesse Palmer is an ABC/ESPN sports analyst and former contestant on the Bachelor. He constantly brings up the term Clemsoning even though Clemson's football team hasn't "pulled a Clemson" in years.
"Quit your Palmering, Clemson has beaten four top 25 SEC teams in the last two years; I don't see them Clemsoning ever again. This is a different Clemson football team."

Gawd, I hope a Clemsoning doesn't happen this weekend against Nova.:)

Hey I am the one who last year said Clemsoning should be changed to Stanfording. I like and respect Tiger fans living in Charlotte. I am just be fair in thinking VPI has had the better program for a while. You guys have done really well the last 3 years but I grade on the whole.

Commonwealth Clash Adds to Historic Rivalry Between UVa and Virginia Tech

Charlottesville, Va. - The longstanding rivalry between Virginia and Virginia Tech is getting a new name-- the Commonwealth Clash presented by Virginia529. Building on a tradition started when the two schools first competed against each other in a football game in 1895, the Commonwealth Clash is a head-to-head, points-based competition between the athletic teams of the Hoos and Hokies.

The competition will include the 21 sports in which the two schools compete against each other, plus one fan-decided point.

At the end of each school year, the institution with the most points will be crowned the champion of the Commonwealth Clash.

Certainly VT has won more games over the last 10 years. I was just complaining about the use of an anachronistic term. VT and CU have a lot in
common as academic institutions and I have always enjoyed it when we played. I do like where we are right now as compared to where they are.

Milerock - I was teasing about Clemsoning. Wish Syracuse was at your level. The win over OSU was epic. Think a win at Georgia is in the cards?

Va Tech!!! their team, coach, fans and mascot. Can't wait to start playing them again. I'll be waiting.
