Time Warner carries virtually every SU hoops game and I watch 'em all. Most are on the Time Warner network. Thinking of switching to FIOS and the only thing holding me back is that I may not get those games, particularly the early season tune-up's.

Can anyone with FIOS educate me?

FiOS does carry the TWS feed for those games, though sometimes that gets a little screwed up and you miss a portion. But generally, you won't miss those games.

Biggest thing you won't get right now is lacrosse and Jimmy's presser after games though that might change.

I may be wrong, so someone may correct me, but I believe that with the new ACC/ESPN deal, TWC will no longer be carrying games, just the coaches' shows.

FIOS in MD and love it, FWIW.

I have heard that ACC games will be shown on YES. Is anyone able to verify that?

great, I can live with that.

TWC lost the rights. They are out of the loop now.

I live in Brooklyn. They are finally putting in the fios threads this week. In the near future I will finally have a choice other than TWC. Don't know which way I will go but would appreciate any advice. I'm hoping at the very least that I can broker with TWC for a better rate. But I am more concerned with the quality of system performance and programming.

Expect MSG to pick up the 7 regional network football games that YES is not carrying. If you have an "out of market" sports package with your video provider you'll likely already get the available 17-games (e.g. ROOT out of Pittsburgh, or some Fox related RSNs).

Most locations will also have access to the local game of the week package (see CNY Central in the Syracuse area).

The Disney family will show a bunch of games.

I suspect that there will be more Syracuse games on ESPN3 than we've been accustomed to recently.

I would expect this all to get reshuffled again in a few years.

Hey folks, reviving this thread to see how people feel about these two options. I'm moving to Jamesville from Utica and can't go with DirecTV at the townhouse I rented. Fios was never offered in Utica so I don't know much about it.

Are there any strong opinions out there about Verizon vs. Time Warner (speaking both about tv and internet)? How about any differences in availability of basketball and football games?

Thanks in advance.

Both are OK. For SU sports Time Warner does a good job and carries everything. I believe FiOS carries everything in regards to SU sports, but am not 100% sure about that

From my experience, Verizon carried every single SU game that was on Time Warner, I believe with the exception of exhibition games.

I don't know about programming but FIOS has much higher all digital bandwidth compared to my cable company. The video was much better quality with FIOS on my TV than with cable.

My basic complaint with the move to the ACC was missing games on TV (Rochester TW). While in the BE, I think I saw at least 98% of the game the last 5 years. And during the last 2 years, I easily missed more game than the previous 5 put together.

Its the same here in Syracuse with TW

I switched to FIOS last year and have seen pretty much every game. Also, with WatchESPN anything potentially not televised is usually on there.

I just switched to Fios a couple of weeks ago, so I have no info on SU game availability.

I can say that the quality of the picture is vastly better. Haven't seen any of the pixelation issues that I dealt with on a regular basis when I had TW. There are a ton more channels offered in HD, the Internet connection is vastly quicker and the price is, at least for now, significantly lower for significantly more content.

The only negative I will note so far is that the Mets games that WPIX carries (25 in 2015) are, as far as I can tell, not picked up by Fios like they were by TW. Most of the games I will miss will be watchable from other stations however (NESN, Yes, TBS, etc.).

My understanding is that all the regular season games TW televises for football and basketball will be made available on Fios but not exhibition games and not the other Olympics sports. Not sure if the coaches show will be shown on Fios...

I switched from TW to Verizon FIOS a little over a year ago. No complaints other than, as Tom mentioned, some of the weekend Mets games aren't carried when they're on WPIX and not SNY.

I agree that the HD picture seems to be noticeably better with FIOS...and the internet speed seems snappier.

FIOS is 100x better in quality, service, everything.

Over time, FIOS's price gets a lot higher, and the amount they charge for equipment rental is outrageous. Adds about $60 to my bill every month, and we have to replace the DVRs every 18 months or so. I am out of contract in a couple days with FIOS and want to see what kind of deal they offer me.
