Old school broadcaster that gets what's important. Not sure if anyone noticed, but when the walk ons came in he mentioned it, and then made sure to name every one of them even though he butchered a few of their names. Not many play by play guys would do that.

That's a treat for them and their family, and he gets what his role is in those situations. Just a real classy guy and an all time great college basketball announcer.

He misnamed people several times in the game. Didn't bother me though, I like his enthusiasm for the game.

Any broadcaster that can cover both the Masters golf tournament and college basketball is a top notch broadcaster, in my opinion.

I'm still waiting for David Feherty to start covering college basketball. ;)

Yeah he's great. I would have preferred if he would have done a better job letting us know who the fouls were called on then telling us who the walkons were.

You're right he sucks.

Verne has slipped but he is a class act like you say. Our family and other friends were invited over to his house in Steamboat Springs one summer back in 2000 I think. He is a big time supporter of the arts as well with an impressive CD and vinyl collection back then. Real nice guy.

Toward the beginning of the broadcast I was thinking "these guys are a bit off, but not jackasses like the usual espn crews we get", but they really picked it up as the game went along in my opinion, and made it much more enjoyable than many of the broadcasts I've watched this year. Great call on Scoop feeling it right before he hit the 2nd of the back to back 3's.

echos my comment in antoher string

Verne is the best. He's getting a bit older but his pipes are still there. Great voice. You hear it and you know it's a big game. He was very good today, as was Clark.

We go from Brent Musberger to Verne Lundquist to (I assume) McDonough/Raf/Bilas on Monday night. Doesn't get much better than that.

It was a nice touch. However, Verne's best days as a broadcaster are far behind him and it's sort of painful to listen him do basketball these days. He's better suited to the slower pace of golf now.

That said, I will always remember his great work during the 1986 Masters.

That "Scoop is feeling it, look at his body language" came from Clark Kellogg. Thought he did a nice job with the broadcast as well.

Clark Kellogg is an excellent color guy.
He knows the game and doesn't speak nonsense.
Great call before Scoop hit that 2nd 3.
Has really good chemistry with Lundquist.
That counts for a lot in terms of the way the broadcast goes and fans feel about it.
And both of them realize they're ON TELEVISION...and let a lot of the game speak for itself.

I like Clark, I haven't liked Verne since the Digger Dance Game

Eric "Devindorf"
Sha"boz" Napier

Vern is great at golf but he's not a cbb guy... How can he do cbb and say "Devin dorf"? As bad as Dook Vital is, I know he can pronounce Devendorf...

Verne is a staple. I wish they didn't have to give him face time though. Great voice but quite unfortunate looking.

Kellogg calling Scoops three make 4 seconds prior to the shot going up game him some points in my book.

Still nothing compares to Bilas-Raf-Sean

Wrong. Kid IA a really good player. He used to give Flynn fits in practice. He had D-1 offers.

Yes, classy move by Verne. He took the time to do his homework just in case the walk ons got in the game. I appreciate play by play guys who do their homework. I can forgive a mispronunciation or a missed foul call now and then but preparation is key.

Clark Kellogg is as good as it gets. I only wish he could call our games more often. Clark is the only guy who is on par with Bilas.

Sure could tell it was a CBS production...no Laurie Fine update during a long timeout. ESPN

Met him at the airport in Chicago on the way to Steamboat. He is really a nice guy. I recognized his voice but not his face. I apologized for not remembering his name but his voice was so familiar to me. He couldnt have been nicer. Gave us recommendations for places to go in Steamboat Springs and talked sports while we waited. Just a very down to earth guy with no ego. For that I will cut him slack for some mistakes in the broadcast.
