This is my weekly accounting of how college football teams who played ranked teams, (using the AP poll). The formula is simple: You get 25 points for playing the #1 ranked team, 24 for playing the #2 ranked team, 23 for playing the #3 team and so on, down to 1 point for playing the #24 team. Then you add or subtract the point differential of the actual game to that. teams that wind up with positive points accumulate them as the season goes along. It's not so much a ranking of teams as it is a stat to look at when determining how to rank them.

Here are the teams that gained positive points in week two.

OREGON beat #7 Michigan State 46-27 = +38 points
VIRGINIA TECH beat #8 Ohio State 35-12 = +32 points
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA beat #13 Stanford 13-10 = +16 points
STANFORD lost to #14 Southern California 10-13 = 9 points
MEMPHIS lost to #11 UCLA 35-42 = +8 points
MICHIGAN STATE lost to #3 Oregon 27-46 = +4 points
IOWA STATE lost to #20 Kansas State 28-32 = +2 points
