He needs to work on his snaps when the QB is in the shotgun. I counted at least a dozen snaps that were low today. Fortunately none resulted in tiunovers. However, the express purpose of the shotgun (vs being under center) is to provide the QB with another second or two to view downfield. When the QB has to shift his focus towards the ground to field a low snap, it defeats the entire purpose of lining up in the shotgun. I would imagine it also interrupts his concentration, when his mental focus needs to be on reading the defense, executing the play, locating the 1st and 2nd WR optins, etc.

it may be a lack of reps with th qb they are not all same height .. so much od snap for center is automatic and muscle memory from many practice snaps .. JCM is tall

Neither he nor Servais is a center. Consistent hiking issues for several years now. How can you not recruit a true center in 5 years? The one they got close with got his offer pulled; he also can't start for Fresno State, so...

he needs to move down to the second line next year along with Tisdale. Hoping Josh Iolia can win the job

His snaps are killing us it totally throws the QB off mentally it messes up his reads, any time you lose 1.5 seconds for your QB to adjust the ball were he needs it you invite the defense in for a free lunch I find it mind boggling that this problem has yet to be fixed.

Ilaoa will be the guy next year for many reasons. His snaps are brutal. I’m not going to go in depth about the other issues

I also see Ilaoa getting a long look to be first team center. That way Vet can move to RT.

Vet is the most over rated OL we have. Marginal player but again is it a lack of talent or coaching.

Or else he becomes the #2 center and #2 RT I really hope we have some other candidates to play ( RT ) It is a very good situation when you have a couple of offensive lineman that can come off the bench to play a couple of positions I think Carlos would be a perfect candidate.

Right. if reports are true about Anthony Red, then Vet is a backup. Which is fine. Just want a healthy competition and decent depth!

Agree I have heard coach Cav is high on Red I believe he suffered a torn achilles tendon pre season , hopefully he recovers 100% and becomes the starting ( RT ) Also I would not be shocked if we bring in a transfer.

I’ll add that I think Vet was pushed into it before he was ready. I do think he’s been better this year than last, and would expect him to continuously get better year over year.

I wonder if he'd be better at guard. I wonder if we have a team full of guards.

The snaps to which I am referring were all at knee-height or lower. I don't think JCM being 1" taller than Rex (6'4" vs 6'3") has anything to do with it.
As others point out, Vitterello is playing out of position at center, and at least none of his snaps have sailed over the QB's head, but he needs to work on his technique in practice.

I'm confused - why do we think Veterello won't improve given all the playing time and experience, but Iloa who isn't playing nearly as much and Red who is hurt will improve so rapidly that they beat out Veterello?

I think Servais lack of improvement is skewing the perception that anyone can improve.

I can see why that perception would exist given what we think we see.

I recall though too that someone said Servais isn't at 100% and has been gutting it out since we don't have other healthier options that are ready.
