When you are located in the Northeast an indoor practice facility is a must have...Va Tech is in the South man, they barely see winter.

How Va Tech manages to be as good as they have been is amazing to me.

People criticize SU for it's location, but Blacksburg is far worse, IMHO. Less snow, but far more isolated. And the area is more "West Virginia" than "Northern VA".

It truly is in the middle of nowhere. Its a hard 4 or 5 hour drive from DC. And there's not much in between except Richmond and Richmond is a dead place.

The VT campus is bleak. It's an attempt at being a military school.

VT is an afterthought---a 2nd class citizen --- in VA with all the oxygen sucked up by UVA.

It amazes me how they are able to do what they do.

campus is very nice, town is is nice, shenandoah valley---beautiful---same analogy geographically as psu. your criticism is overly harsh.

But you have forgotten the booming metropolis of Roanoke.;)
I believe that their enrollment is partially due to location.
Where else are you going to go in that area of VA..Liberty?Ferrum?
VT is the next largest University after UVA in that area of western VA.
There isn't much south of Blacksburg/Roanoke until you hit Winston-Salem/Greensboro in NC.

How are the academics?
mediocore---does have vet.school in coop with u of maryland, and a med school they partner in some degree with u of richmond for law. per us news su is not that far ahead of them in the rankings.

I like the boondocks better as an old guy than I did when I was 20.

But that part of Virginia leaves me cold.

It's hard to predict what is appealing to different people. Here in Knoxville so many people say they love it because of it's proximity to the mountains. I personally think it's one of the least attractive cities I've seen, and I don't like the mountains, so I'm looking forward to moving away in a few years. Some kids like rural campuses and some like urban campuses. Someone mentioned VTech being 4 hours from DC. That's the same distance or even closer than Syracuse is to NYC.

At the end of the day, they've got a ton of alums and local folks that Love ---- LOVE ---- to go to their games.

This thread is full of hilarity and just so much bitterness. Just because we are SU fans doesn't mean we have to blindly hate any and every team and refuse to see any good in every single school. I was going to take the time to respond to certain posts in here but they are just so awfully thought out and untrue that I can't even take it seriously. Everyone needs to get off of their high horses here, you're making yourself look like a moron and it reflects poorly upon SU and SU's fans.
