CHA Playoff Scenarios Orange have just two games remaining vs. RIT this weekend With just two games remaining on the CHA slate for each of the conference's teams, Syracuse has locked up home ice advantage at worst for the opening series of the CHA playoffs. The Orange currently is tied for second with Penn State, with the teams vying for a bye to the semifinals, which comes with earning the No. 2 seed. Syracuse can finish no lower than No. 3. Here's how the remaining seeds can shake out: Current Standings: Mercyhurst * 27 points Syracuse ! 20 Points Penn State ! 20 Points Robert Morris 16 Points Lindenwood 14 Points RIT 11 Points * - Clinched No. 1 seed ! – Clinched at worst home ice in the 1st round CHA Playoff Scenarios: No. 1 – Mercyhurst (27 points) has locked up the No. 1 seed. The Lakers get an automatic first round bye and will host the CHA semifinals and finals on March 6-7. Remaining games: at Lindenwood Friday and Saturday No. 2 – Penn State (20 points) earns the No. 2 seed and accompanying first-round an equivalent or higher point total to Syracuse. Should the teams tie, they'd move onto the second tie-breaker which is conference wins. The Nittany Lions have the advantage in this category, entering the final two games with 9 conference wins. Remaining games: vs. Robert Morris on Friday and Saturday. Syracuse (20 points) earns the No. 2 seed and accompanying first-round bye by picking up more points this weekend than Penn State gains in its series with Robert Morris. Two points are awarded for a win, one point is awarded for a tie. However, the Orange could also win the No. 2 seed by recording 0 points this weekend, with a Robert Morris sweep of Penn State. The teams would then all tie at 20 points, with the Orange owning the tiebreaker of record amongst tied teams (Syracuse 10 pts, RMU 8 pts, PSU 6 pts should this scenario take place). Remaining games: vs. RIT Friday, at RIT Saturday. Robert Morris – Mathematically eliminated from the No. 2 seed based on tiebreaking procedures. Remaining games: at Penn State Friday and Saturday No. 3 seed – Penn State earns the No. 3 seed if it finishes with less points than Syracuse, but earns at least one point against Robert Morris this weekend. Penn State can finish no less than No. 3 if it records any points this weekend. Syracuse finishes with the No. 3 seed if it finishes with less points than Penn State. Robert Morris earns the No. 3 seed if it beats Penn State twice (earning four points). No. 4 seed – Penn State earns the No. 4 seed if it's swept by Robert Morris this weekend. Robert Morris automatically earns the No. 4 seed if it gets 2-3 points vs. Penn State this weekend. It can also get the No. 4 seed by finishing with the same point total as Lindenwood on the season, as the Colonials own the head-to-head tie breaker. Lindenwood – Lindenwood earns the No. 4 seed by picking up three or four points this weekend and having Robert Morris earn 0 or 1 point respectively. If the teams finish tied (Lindenwood trails Robert Morris by two points), then Robert Morris owns the tie breaker. Remaining games, vs. Mercyhurst Friday and Saturday No. 5 seed – Lindenwood earns the No. 5 seed if the standings hold as is, meaning the Lions would need to collect two points or less vs. Mercyhurst this weekend, or finish with a point total equal to or less than Robert Morris. Robert Morris earns the No. 5 seed if Lindenwood surpasses the Colonials in the standings by the Lions earning three or more points than Robert Morris. RIT – The Tigers earn the No. 5 seed by beating Syracuse twice and Lindenwood losing both games to Mercyhurst. The Lions lead RIT by three points in the standings and also hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. Remaining games: at Syracuse Friday, vs. Syracuse Saturday No. 6 seed - RIT earns the No. 6 seed if it does not earn all four points this weekend and Lindenwood gets swept by Mercyhurst. Lindenwood earns the No. 6 seed by getting swept by Mercyhurst and RIT sweeping Syracuse. Syracuse returns to action on Friday vs. RIT at 7 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion, then travels to RIT on Saturday to take on the Tigers at 3 p.m.
