Why was it hyped? 2 winningest college coaches of all time, first conference game between two of the winningest programs in college basketball history. This was the equivalent of alabama with bear bryant playing michigan with bo schembeckler for the first time ever in the same conference.

Its ok to care about the regular season you know. This is why college hoops > college football. Games like this actually matter and and not an afterthought

Well su hoops is a great draw for a rowdy crowd that highlights the university and helps recruiting for all sports including football. Wouldnt a ranked football matchup be a big deal in the regular season? Not getting it sounds like what my wife uses as an excuse to make me watch a game in a different room.

Which is a main reason why there should be a 16 team playoff because one loss shouldnt matter in any sport. Its ridiculous.

95+% of college football games are meaningless. For any non-SEC program, as soon as you hit one loss the rest of the season is an exhibition (assuming a national championship is the only thing that matters).

That's what kills me about people that say college football games means more - you either need to be unable to think it through or fundamentally dishonest to actual state that crap.
