Dion Waiters (Syracuse): I don’t know the young man who’s averaging 12.9 ppg for No. 1 Syracuse. But when I watch Waiters play, I always assume that one of his missions is to embarrass naïve defenders on fast breaks. It always happens so fast. Syracuse forces the turnover, Waiters runs up the floor and because he’s 6-4 and athletic, you anticipate a nice dunk in transition. … And then he finishes with some flush that would have earned a 9.0 in the 2000 NBA dunk contest. But he’s doing this during an actual game. Guys who complete dunk-contest-level slams in games are worth the price of admission.

That pic from last night should be a goddamn Fathead. Great shot.

Dion definitely has unparalleled athletic ability to be able to "throw it down" the way he does at 6'4". He's quick off the dribble, embarrassing defenders as he flashes through the lane for a bucket. The one thing I would like to see him improve upon is the discipline and patience with which he plays. Although this is a factor of his game that is steadily improving, I still see him making a couple boneheaded plays per game. Occasionally he tries to force bad shots when he is well defended, or make passes to players that aren't open, rather than pulling out and resetting the offense. One small criticism...

That being said, I agree with Fran Fraschilla's analysis last night when he said that Dion will definitely be a good NBA prospect. Possibly our best NBA prospect since Carmelo.

This is a great shot and I assume the one to which Ragman is referring.

Damn, Dion looks like that rim banged his mom or something. I wonder what one of those above the rim cameras would have of his face because he looks PISSED!

First picture is from last night and picturesque. Second one is the DePaul game and just nasty.

Here's another from last night.

Ragman was referring to the top picture.

Dion reacts so quickly to a loose ball. He is as fast as any Orangemen since Stevie Thompson on the break.

I think this explains the way he plays:

“There are some things I have been through, some family tragedies, that is why I play the way I play, I just leave it all out there,” Waiters said. “I know my cousins and best friend are watching me. I think about them a lot.

“I was really close to those guys, they were like my big brothers. It was crushing.”
“My men above are praying for me,” Waiters said.
