Walk-on Tryout Process

Just wondering if anybody could provide some details regarding SU's walk-on tryouts as I know somebody that might have interest. When are the tryouts held? Are their multiple tryouts? How many guys usually try out? Invite only or completely open? Any other details would be appreciated.

Also, it seems like SU carries more walk-ons than in the past. Any insight as to why that is the case?
