I am curious to see if anyone feel as I do that our walkons seems to get extremely limited playing time. I am not referring solely to tonight’s game although it seems a good example. In a game totally put away with a lead of 30+, why wait until 90 seconds remaining to empty the bench? The walkons seem to deserve better than this. Are my expectations off base? Interested in others’ opinion.

We haven’t played in a long time. Minutes have value. Benny, Frank, and Symir certainly need all of them they can get at this point. Sidibe needed some now that he’s available. One walkon got in early with those guys. The walkons will “almost” never have any impact on winning or losing a game.

Once the clock hits 2:00 left, they’re in play. IMO.

I think JB did a great job with the rotation. Getting the walk-ons for a short time in with the clear intentions of getting Chris LaValle some shots was great. But, Benny got plenty of time, as did Symir and Frank. And Bourama a few minutes to get his feet wet. Hopefully Cornell provides a similar opportunity.

I wouldn’t get worked up about walk
Ons.

For most part they become booster quid pro quo and know the deal. Not saying it’s 100% this way at SU but that’s how it is other places.

It’s rich person fantasy camp or who you know fantasy camp. Melvin Tuten, Lockwood were in The Who you know camp.

So if they get in for 40 seconds it’s 40 more seconds than other student body members who didn’t get the chance

And I have some knowledge of the process seeing a frat brother not even get a look because the store was full at the walk on spot (he was much better than the guys selected by Jim and Bernie already)

I remember we had some very good walk on players our championship year and thankfully when we played the infamous 6OT game.

I can understand some gratuitous walk ons. However having really good practice players pushing our scholarship players in practice especially when our scholarship numbers are low, makes the team better.

In the Jazz vs San Antonio game last night, the Jazz had a 14 point lead with under two minutes to go and put in the 3rd string, including Elijah Hughes. The Spurs scored eight quick points which brought it down to to six. The Jazz were forced to put some of their starters back in to clinch the win. Unfortunately for anyone betting the Jazz, the point spread was seven and they failed to cover. Of course, that had nothing to do with it, but it did get hairy at the end.

I'd much rather see Benny on the court, working on his game and getting more comfortable, than a walk on getting more run. I don't mean to be insensitive, but I could care less about a walk on.

I think the top walk ons are 1 injury away from being put into the rotation. Thomas and Bayer saved our bacon in 2 enormous games. I'm not sure Casey should be guard #4 like he apparently is. If we are blowing out Cornell I would like to give them a few more minutes.

Williams is so far off that if injury forces him to play starters minutes I don't think he can handle it without fouling out. Not sure who would play on the wing if forced to do it from the walkons.

there are a number of schools that don’t even call them walk-ons. They are called “practice players” and virtually never see the court. At least at SU they are referred to as part of the team and maybe see the court a couple of times a year. That isn’t too terrible in the grand scheme of things. I’d prefer to see their minutes go to the scholarship bench players except for the last two minutes of the game in a major blowout.

Agree. It's fun to see the walkons, but it's way more important that Frank, Symir and Benny get the minutes and the walkons get in at the end like last night.

You should post a lot more. We need more people questioning the coaching staff. Especially on critical issues like this.
