Watching “The Express”

Until they had the montage with the scores of the 1959 season and they were, (for no apparent reason) wrong.

It has an inaccuracy I cannot understand. Ernie's girlfriend, who suffered through his illness with him, was my friend and classmate Helen Gott. For some reason, the movie features a "girlfriend" named "Sarah."

Sports Illustrated got it right.

I say this every time this film is discussed, but I will again. Davis’ family in Elmira is watching the Cotton Bowl on their porch. There must have been a heat wave that January.

Thank you Joyce for posting the article I had never read it before. I remember in 1962 I had a summer job in a medical building in Syracuse. A drug rep was in the office and told me that Ernie was going to die of leukemia. I cried, just as my eyes watered when I read the Sports Illustrated piece. Ernie was an outstanding person
