correct spot. Mix that pitch with a decent repertoire of other pitches like a fast ball and change up. Once the hard slider is thrown with 2 strikes on the batter its pretty much an out.Sparkey would throw thw slider to a righty batter so it would dive down to his ankles. Swinging over the ball or fouling it off was pretty much all that the batter could do. If he hit the ball it was a trickle down th third base line or a weak grounder to the pitcher. I think the hard slider is the pitch that Phil Hughes neede and still needs to resurrect himself as a future big time ace. Phil has relied on a mediocre fast ball and curve/ Not nearly enough.couchburn
