This obviously is way too early and means absolutely nothing after 1 game, but I had comparisons for our 2 marquee newcomers pop into my head during the game.

KADARY: In limited amount of time, he actually reminded me of Billy Edelin. Not super explosive, but seemed to just have an innate feel for the game. When was the last time we had a PG who faked one pass to make another? He did that repeatedly to feed Marek at the foul line. Just liked what he did - very under control and playing at his own pace. Being stripped from behind on the break to me is more his teammates fault for not letting him know a defender was sneaking up on him. I was just as frustrated as anyone that he did not get any run in the 2nd half, but I think he has great potential. Love his length at the top of the zone as well. I'm trying to remember Edelin at the top of the zone - in my memory he was serviceable but got a fair amount of steals. I see a similar upside for Kadary. And clearly anything he gives on D would be an improvement over our starting guards at the moment. He seems like he could be a foundational player for us. Perhaps never a superstar, but one who makes everyone better. Very excited to see him develop especially with more athletic players on the squad (Griffin and Benny).

GRIFFIN: This is going to sound strange, but I saw a lot of JR Smith in his game. Explosive leaper. Shooter with no conscience who can catch fire for minutes at a time. Good rebounder for his size. A little spazzy/disconnected at times. I'm not saying he's going to be as good as JR Smith, nor as knuckleheaded, but that was the name that popped into my head.

Thoughts?

Griffin is much better defensively and plays hard. Smith plays zero defense. If you remember he got lit up for over 40 against SU. He’s terrible on defense when he plays for the Knicks. Getting him was a terrible trade for the Knicks. They would do anything to get rid of him. THe only saving grace is the Knicks still have a couple of late first round picks.

I don’t remember JR Smith playing college ball.

Griffin - Tyus Battle with a potentially better motor

Richmond - hopefully Gbinije but I see some Frank too

Griffin will be better than Battle at everything except dribbling to nowhere.

Battle was a good college talent. Im still torn on whether he was naturally a black hole by choice or if the team was that bereft of another player to step up and create. Tyus would probably have hard a cup of coffee in the NBA had he put more effort into the boards and creating for others.
