Sykes Named to Naismith Watch List
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior guard Brittney Sykes of the No. 20/22 Syracuse University women's basketball team was one of 50 student-athletes named to the 2014-15 Naismith Trophy preseason watch list. The Naismith Trophy is presented annually to the top men's and women's collegiate players in the country.
In 2013-14, Sykes led the Orange in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per contest. She ranked 13th in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in points per game, as well. The Newark, N.J. native became the first player in program history to earn All-ACC accolades, when she took home second team honors last season.
Earlier this season, Sykes was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team. She was one of five student-athletes to earn All-ACC accolades in 2013-14 and be named to the preseason team. Sykes has yet to play in a game this season due to an injury suffered in last year's NCAA Tournament.
The Orange returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it hosts North Carolina Central. Game time is set for 12 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
