Women's Basketball | 10/17/2014 4:52:00 PM | Media Day for SU Women's Basketball Team is coming off second straight trip to NCAA Tournament SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2014-15 Syracuse University women's basketball team held its annual media day on Friday afternoon in the Carmelo K. Anthony Center. Head coach Quentin Hillsman, his staff, and student-athletes hosted a large contingent of media in this year's media event. "We're very happy to be back," stated Hillsman. "We feel very good about what we have. We are going to be an athletic team." "We're really athletic, it's scary," junior guard Brittney Sykes commented. "You look and see how much this team has evolved over my three years that I've been here; it's been great and the evolution has been amazing." Syracuse is coming off its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, a program first. In addition, the Orange won its first game in the NCAA Tournament in school history last season when it defeated Chattanooga on March 22. SU returns plenty of experience as it looks to earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament for a third year in-a-row. Junior guards Brianna Butler and Sykes, the team's top two leading scorers from a year ago, will look to steer the ship. "Everyone on this team is able to step up," said Butler. "As Coach said, we have seven starters and can go even deeper in our bench this year. I think we are definitely improving as a team and there's more that we can do." Some new faces joined the squad for the upcoming season, as well. Sophomore center Michelle Van Dyke, freshman guard Danielle Minott, and freshman center Amber Witherspoon all are looking to earn this first minutes on a collegiate court. Senior guards Diamond Henderson and Maggie Morrison transferred to Syracuse and will don the Orange uniform for first time in 2014-15. Following media day, the club will participate in Orange Madness in the Carrier Dome. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the event begins at 8 p.m. Fans can watch on Time Warner SportsChannel. The Syracuse women's basketball team opens the season on Sunday, Nov. 16 when it hosts Fordham. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
