Syracuse slipped four spots from No. 21 to No. 25 when the AP poll was released on Monday but continued its presence in the poll for the 10th consecutive week. Syracuse has been ranked every week this season, peaking at a program-record No. 19. The Orange were given 91 points by the voters. No. 24 Rutgers had 98 points, while Western Kentucky was the top team in the also receiving votes category with 78 points. Despite its ranking success, Syracuse has been stuck in a basketball purgatory this season, unable to beat excellent teams while cleaning up against the rest. The Orange lost to No. 16 Duke 74-72 and beat unranked Virginia 70-58 this week. The win over the Cavaliers (RPI of 79) gave the Orange its best win of the season. Syracuse is 11-5 overall but just 1-2 in the conference with an RPI of 59. Four of the teams that have beaten Syracuse are currently ranked and the fifth was ranked at the time.
