Onondaga County has 480,000 citizens.  If 10% of them donated $10 per month, we'd be at $5.8 million.  Forget about the tens of thousands of fans that show up for random games in far out places.

I personally would subscribe to a $10/month donation to help my basketball team win championships. Nobody ever asked.  I have to seek out the collective,  but the website is decidedly uninviting.

Lots of small donations add up. They aren't really trying to get us to donate our small amounts of money.

And that is ignoring more creative efforts like the one reported on in this story:

Syracuse University could partner with B&S and probably put out branded specialty 1911 ciders that make millions even on fairly small percentage of sales.
