Have to give them credit for a 2-0 week.

We aren’t nationally good.
But we are going to be decent in the ACC.

Let’s just enjoy this season.
I knew we had it after Swider made that 3 today and people were worried.

Nope we won. Confidence.
It is frustrating because we aren’t really good again but we aren’t complete garbage.

This team plays hard the entire game. Made just enough shots to win. FSU had 2 good looks at the end and missed. You have to have a little luck too. Whew.
razor thin when it shoulda been a blowout but still a win

the defense did not give up hardly ANY easy buckets in the paint...which is a huge improvement.

they gave up a lot of open look 3s but FSU just couldnt make them...

overall the defense is showing signs of improvement...which is a good sign...the team can still get a lot better from here and likely will.

Benny is the X-factor. If he ever gets going its gonna take this team up a notch or two.

lol that’s what you’re doing huh
When we do well I give complements.
When we do poorly I say it.

This team has done both.
The defense and rebounding was outstanding in the second half today.
Kids deserve a lot of credit.
Swider and Girard closed them out.
They deserve major props.

Sorry I don’t predetermine what I say but actually analyze what I see.

Defense is improving, FSU awful shooting helped a little too. Rebounding seemed better too.

On O, need to keep the ball moving, when they dribble too much turnovers and bad shots come

If they make one of them it goes to OT so we still had a chance.

The biggest limitation for us this year will be the ACC.
You may need to win two more games in conference than normal due to ACC being ranked #6-#7 in conference metrics.

Let's hope the ACC turns it around in its remaining OOC games. Unfortunately not many big games left for any of the schools. At least avoid bad losses as a group I suppose.

The 4-2 in the last 6 games of the ACC/BIG challenge was a positive (after starting 2-6) and that has to continue because the ACC is still in a big hole.

I think the historical strength of the ACC will outweigh the fact that the conference is down this year.

Our strength of schedule will be really good. We have a chance to go 4-0 or 3-1 in this four game stretch. That’s pretty good.

Question is now

C Jesse Edwards > Marek Dolejai ==>Better scorer/rebounder at Center position (still love Marek)
Cole Swider > Quincy Guirier ==> Better shooter/rebounder. Not certain about quickness on def
Jimmy B = Allan Griffin ==> Allan such a better athlete compensates for plus-up on rest
G Buddy > Last year Buddy ==> Watch the iso against Indiana. Fantastic
G Gerard > Last year Girard ==> Free trows alone is big

Bench < Last year Bench ==> So far, its hard to determine as last year developed late.

Think that overall, we will win 20 before the ACC tourney. I believe we are a 6 seed. We just beat FSU who have have 26 straight at home in ACC play. We have now a new zone

So many things to come up to excuse the encouraging good plays we see. Buddy will play better, the rebounding will get better the team will improve so there’s a lot to do to elevate the team but we are on the right track.

If you are on offense, where is the weakness in a 1-3-1 to exploit? Must be something easily exploitable cuz Boeheim hasn’t used it before now.

I would be surprised - they have seemed to stick heavily to Q1 and Q2 metrics and in particular "quantity" of Q1 wins, which becomes harder when you are in a bad conference.

They stuck it to BIG schools in 2018 (or 17? when they got 4 schools), even though they have plenty of respect historically.

Obviously going 12-8 or 13-7 in the ACC may be easier than normal as well, so it goes both ways.

Just to show the conference effect.

The first chart is from Warren Nolan -- it is conferences ranked by RPI. ACC is #6 -- and while I know .552 looks close to .566 and .584, its actually a big difference. You will see that below.

I would have preferred to use NET by I haven't found a good live rankings by conference for them. And on a group scale / conference scale RPI probably approximates NET quite closely. 2022 Men's College Basketball Conference RPI | WarrenNolan.com

The next two tables are from Bartorvvik, which admittedly is something new to me so I am not giving them 100% confidence yet. But the tables below effectively show the impact of your conference struggling in OOC.

Below are projected NET and quadrant records of B12 and ACC schools. I wouldn't get swayed by individual school rankings. Instead focus on the circled amounts -- these are Q1 games. ACC schools are getting much less opportunities as I was expecting. And this hurts teams come Selection Sunday.

I only pulled the B12 -- I am sure if I did the same for the BE, BIG, and SEC it would be at least the same, and most likely more. If requested I can paste those.

When I look at the remaining games for ACC schools through December most teams have anywhere from 2-4 remaining OOC games. Many of the games are cupcakes, but there are some big games that could certainly help the conference if the ACC does better than expected.

I did identify the following crucial games for the conference in December

Louisville vs Kentucky
Syracuse vs Villanova
Georgia Tech vs USC
Georgia Tech vs LSU
Boston College vs St Louis
UNC vs UCLA
NC St vs Purdue
Virginia Tech vs St Bonaventure
Florida St vs South Carolina
Clemson vs South Carolina
Notre Dame vs Kentucky
Notre Dame vs Indiana
Pitt vs St. John's
Pitt vs Colgate

I kid about the last two. Both games are going to be ACC loses. Screw Pitt.
