My ideal schedule rotation works like this:
 
7 home games, 8 home games, 8 home games.  Rinse and repeat indefinitely.
 
Here is how it would break down:
 
4 home games in conference
2 home games from OOC home and home series
1 home game from a D1AA school
and a home game 2 of of every 3 years based on a 2 for 1 series with MAC or MAC-level schools
 
If we have to play a game in MetLife, it should be during one of the years we would otherwise have played 8 home games (move a game that would have been played at home to MetLife but stay at 7 home games that season because of the 'bonus' home game from a MAC 2 for 1).
 
If we play at MetLife every 3 years, our home schedule would rotate as 7 home, 8 home, 7 home.  Would only do games at MetLife from this point forward if they are part of a 1-1-1 arrangement and only as a last resort to get a team we really want in the Dome to agree to come here.
 
The goal should be that we never, ever play less than 7 home games in a single season.
 
That being said, I think it is unlikely we will be able to consistently schedule 2 for 1 with MAC level/service academy level schools, even with the fundamental changes happening with scheduling (I think it is all being driven by some of the big conferences going to 9 conference games).
 
If/when we sign 1 for 1 agreements with MAC/MAC level programs, it means we can't consider going to MetLife those years.
 
It will be interesting to see what happens to the MetLife agreement given the poor attendance numbers for the first two games and the departure of DM, who was extremely pro games at MetLife.
