I have a fear. It seems to me that every NEW starter has some form of HUGE day against us... HCDM and DCSS PLEASE DONT LET US BE THAT TEAM ANYMORE!
For Cincinnati fans, watching quarterback Zach Collaros getting carted off the field with a leg injury was about as bad of news as one could endure. At least that was before the official diagnosis on Collaros.
An MRI taken this morning revealed that Collaros has a fractured ankle that will require surgery Monday. The quarterback is officially done for the rest of the regular season.
“Any time you lose your starting quarterback, it is what it is,” coach Butch Jones said. “That’s football and we’ve got to move on. I’m positive and upbeat. We’ve got a great group of kids. You always look at the positive. We get to see our future a little early.”
Jones did add that Collaros could return in time for Cincinnati’s bowl game. When that will be will depend on how Cincinnati finishes the season behind backup quarterback Munchie Legaux. Legaux filled in well for Collaros yesterday in a 24-21 loss to West Virginia. Although he completed less than 50 percent of his passes and threw an interception, Legaux did add 77 yards on the ground including a 65-yard run and a touchdown.
Still, Collaros was the experience and heart of the Bearcats offense. The senior had nearly 2,000 yards passing and 22 total touchdowns. Running back Isaiah Pead has been productive this year for Cincy with nearly 1,000 yards on the ground as well. Look for his touches per game to go up over the last few weeks of the season.
