Let's talk what would have to happen for the unlikely event that we pull the unthinkable upset this weekend.

The unstoppable force vs the unmovable object:

Fournette averages 8.2 ypc or defense gives up 1.7 ypc. Most are assuming Fournette will roll regardless of the opposition... well what if he doesn't? We've bottled up top RB's (though not this good) in the past. What if we force them to pass with a young QB who tends to only throw short routes? We should have 7-8 in the box and everyone tight on the line. Turnovers COULD happen.

So if we frustrate a young qb by taking away his bread and butter. We have our pass rush and can throw some zone blitzes in for good measure and he gets flustered into picks OR holds the ball one count too long and Ronnie T and Co roll through with some strip sacks. How about a pick six and/or a scoop and score to help out their offensive breathren.

Special teams have been a tremendous upgrade YOY. LSU had Honey Badger, it's time they meet Salt Badger. Brisley Estime don't care about SEC speed. BE houses one.

So we've got the perfect storm and 14-21 points from defense and specials. Can the offense pull enough trickery to get us another 14? QB freeze option pass ala vs Penn State? Womack-cat offense?

Let's get way too optimistic here and have some fun. Why not us? Why not now?

LGO!!!

I think we will do well between the tackles, but I think he is going to get to the edge alot and find great success there.

I have my own set of dreams how it could happen and think we have to hope for a few big plays, not a lot of long drives.

So, we start the game receiving the ball and Estime takes it home for a 7-0 lead. Then Fournette is met by Thompson who somehow pulls the ball loose, Franklin picks it up and returns it for 14-0. LSU tries a pass, deflected by Clark, and picked off by Arciniega who laterals to Williams who makes it 21-0. We'd still need Fredericks to break one and more big plays from special teams or the defense, because LSU is going to score points. We have three elements to the team and they've all scored this year.

You know the conversations we are having about getting beat up and hoping for no injuries, and LSU's fans conversations that this will be a route, are probably the same conversations UConn/Mizzou, Toledo/Arkansas, CMU/Oklahoma St., and Jacksonville/Auburn fans were having. Things happen, players play better than expected, coaches scheme well enough to come close or to pull of the upset, and favorites don't always play as well as expected. We have fighter's chance.

That's why they call them upsets. How did the 1980 Hockey team feel before heading out against the Russians.

We'll need the defense and special teams to put up at least 2 touchdowns and be able to force a couple turnovers to have any chance. We most certainly have to sell-out completely on stopping the run. Also in this dream scenario, we will have to move the ball enough to at least get some field goals on the board. I just don't think we'll be able to get a first down without Dungey.

You may have something with this salt badger comment.

Two words: Food poisoning.

I just looked up Fournette's freshman numbers. Through his first three games last year against the same level of competition we had this year: 28 attempts 159 yards 5.5 average. By comparison - Jordan Fredericks - first three: 31 for 197 for 6.4. DBTHPTG.

Fournette has a hangnail on his blocking hand and is out for the game. The #2 RB can't get through the line. We go through four QBs, this time not due to injuries but because they are racking up yards passing and rushing - share the wealth. Our punter gets no playing time, we score on each possession.

Seriously, Fournette is the key to the LSU game plan. If we hold him t o 100-125 yards, the game could be over. Yes, their O line is big and very good. Our D is very good. Both teams have speed. Our blitz packages screw with everyone's head, LSU will not be excluded because they have a big O line. The Dome is the loud house for a reason, you cannot hear yourself think let alone a signal caller yelling for a snap or changing the play. If Dungey plays, their defense will have to work hard, as fundamentally sound as they are, there are always openings and Dungey finds those openings, running or passing.

I am not saying we will win the game. I am saying the game has to be played. HCSS and Co. should play to our strengths and play our game, not play the game LSU dictates to us.

Arkansas and Mizzou are severely overrated and Ok State wasn't ranked to start the season ... while there is always a chance SU could win ... LSU looks really tough right now. The thing that has seemed to hurt them is letting off the gas at the wrong time or pulling Fournette too early.

No one thought they were overrated prior to their games.
