Defense is gonna be great - at least on the initial shot - but if we are gonna give up a million offensive boards per game we are gonna have problems - offensively we don't have anyone who can really get to the hoop anymore - Triche, Carter or Fair vaguely can but are leagues behind Dion, Scoop or KJ - and when they do you can see it is forced and rushed and resulted in umpteen turnovers - we are gonna have to keep teams off the boards and shut them down to win because we are in for some offensive woes - I'm gonna attribute all the boards to wild deep shots on their part - our front line looks insane on defensive and Carter looks like Dion on defense - not as strong but so damn long that he can steal it at any minute - Triche is still Triche - solid but will disappear through out the game - Fair looks to be improving just like Warrick - can't tell if Rak got any better on offense - really hard to read anything from that game being so windy other than we are big, physical and teams will not be scoring layups on us

pretty sure those 3 scored 47 points getting to the hoop yesterday

I think your concept is faulty. If the conditions were such that 75% from the FT line were possible, they never would have gotten to the line that many times. They forced the ball inside way more than they would have normally and we were more liberal with our fouls due to the fact that we knew it would be much harder to get points from the stripe than on layups.

Also, I'll add that your assessment of Triche is very off-mark. He was absolutely solid all day. He is the guy who answered whenever SDSU threatened. And he was able to do it without two primary weapons: an outside shot or a low post threat. This game unfolded so differently than any other game this year will, you just can't make these broad judgments.

I was impressed with Triche yesterday. Hes always been jacked but now he looks faster and quicker as well... If all that comes with more confidence and assertiveness, hes going to have a big year.

Did u watch the game?

Wild assessment. I am certain that SDSU didn't have the team make-up to beat us in any gym on any day. If they weren't outside they would have tried 30-35 shots from long two to three. This would have killed their inside game and limited their fouls. In addition, we would have a a much more balanced game, spread the floor and created lanes for drivers who are obviously skilled. If Triche can get into the lane when there are 9 other guys within 10 feet of him, he can do it when they're holding shooters at the 3.
In a gym, I think we beat these guys by 20, if not more. Except for their 6'8" freshman point guard. They matched up horribly.

Not sure what game you watched but I watched CJ, Triche, and MCW get to the hoop all day long yesterday? If the game had been in a gym it would have been even more to the hoop because we would have had outside shooting to open the lanes more.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with your offense/driving the lane assessment. I think we all realize that Dion was our best player getting to the rim last year and we don't have a true replacement but MCW, Triche, Fair and probably Southy (although he didn't show it yesterday) are all as capable of getting to the rim as Scoop/KJ. Also, our real post power was on the bench most of the game and we still made a living with points in the pain with the afore mentioned group. One game, under very strange conditions. Don't read too much into it but don't worry about our inside game or getting to the hoop. Those are strenghts this year.

I thought Triche looked great and got to the rim way more than I expected considering no one could shoot from the 3 with the wind. This was a weird game, it almost reminded me of games before the 3 point line. The Pearl would have been great in this game. MCW, Triche and Fair played really well and exceeded my expectations for the first game of the year.

SDSU hit 14 of 33 free throws. 75% of 33 is 24ish. So add 10 points to their tally. That gives them 59 points for the game.

We scored 62 points.

Maybe you need to work on your math, or better yet, not come up with ludicrous ifs after a win (or a loss, for that matter). It serves no purpose, as revisionist history and hindsight speculation never does.

A couple of those Triche finishes were Pearl-esque. Nearly brought a tear to my eye.

Also I don't remember but I'm going to assume they scored at least one bucket off an offensive rebound from a free throw, no?

I don't recall either. It just reminds me of the 03 title game when KU fans insist they win that game if they had made free throws, while ignoring that they scored more points off of second chance baskets off of those missed FTs than they would have if they'd made them.

I agree. Thus far, he seems much more assertive and aggressive in getting to the hoop, and he's doing a great job of finishing too. We're a much different team with him playing like that.

Yup thats exactly the game I was thinking of also

Are you seriously contending that CJ could get to the basket easier than MCW? LMAO!

And if we're into hypothesizing if we took 14 more free throws like they did - with our FT shooting % that game, we'd have won by 8 more points. ;)

If we play SDSU in the 3rd or 4th round of the tourney this year, I wonder if the coaching staffs would even bother preparing by watching a replay.

Ya, not bad with his left hand either. ... Not only strong, but can drive and score with both hands. His stop and pop is also solid. He was penetrating almost at will yesterday even though he was being checked to drive by a pretty quick defensive team.

CJ needs to develop his dribble move to the right. He can score a layup with his R hand, but he needs to be able to shoot that floater or drive to the R as well as the L. JS is so athletic he'll always be a factor ... but he turned it over and made a bunch of mental mistakes. Out of position on defense, throwing it away on offense (or just loosing it). He didn't have the best day. Rak did what he was there to do with 5 blocks. Keita, once again, had a nice game defensively, despite the skewed whistles.
