Coach Shafer made a reference to Northern Illinois losing 21 in a row when he was there. I had to look that up. NIU is a pretty good MAC program. Shafe was there from 1996-99. They actually lost 23 in a row, (and 31 of 32):

So our Coach is very familiar with losing. That's concerning. But he went on to a respected career as a an assistant coach and NIU has had 12 winners in 14 years since they bottomed out in the late 90's. That became with a 5-6 year the last year Shafe was there.

I'm sure his point was, I've been apart of worse, and we came back from that and started to find success, therefore the same can reasonably happen here.
