[QUOTE="Cusefan95, post: 5707118, member: 173"] Big East football was not a good league, it was being threatened with losing its auto bid to the BCS. Anyone saying that is trying to spin a narrative that isn’t well grounded in reality. I also think the “no identity” narrative is nonsense. If you asked what identity BC had in the Big East, I’d have no idea what to say. “No identity” is mostly just code for “they don’t win a lot”. If JB retired after the 2016 Final Four and the new guy had them ranked every year, in three Final Fours and winning a championship in the last decade - NO ONE would say “Syracuse has been really successful in the ACC…it’s a shame they still have no identity”. Usually the comeback is we can’t win in the ACC for some reason - but there’s other reasons we can’t win. - We can’t win with a coach who already quiet quit but feels entitled to stay on due to past success. - We can’t win with an administration that contains enough members who support the coach that he does stay on and crashes the program into a ditch. - We can’t win with those people having so much power we just hire an unqualified assistant with no national search to replace the coach who stayed a decade too long after he’s successfully wrecked the program already. - We can’t win with the most powerful booster thinking hiring an AD who was a disaster her last stop, who everyone hates, and who coaches would avoid working for - is a great idea because his wife is friends with said potential AD. And influencing who gets hired when everyone else tells him “no” to his wishes. We can’t win because the administration at Syracuse is a complete dumpster fire. That the administration destroying the program sorta kinda lines up with joining the ACC is mostly coincidence. If we’d not joined the ACC and somehow BE football was still viable - this trainwreck was still inevitable. And I can’t help but think some of the “We need to go back to the Big East” is denial of how bad the administrations at Syracuse have been for the last forty years, how exceptionally awful the last decade was, and how much more difficult that actual issue is going to be to fix than just “going back to the Big East”.
