The Beef O’Brady’s Bowl (Dec. 20, St. Petersburg, Fla.) is slated to be Big East’s No. 7 team vs. a team from Conference USA, tentatively the fourth selection. Conference USA already has four eligible teams, but the Big East only has five (counting Notre Dame). The MAC needs three of the following four teams not to get to six wins — Pittsburgh (5-5), South Florida (5-5), Syracuse (5-5) and Connecticut (4-6). Pitt is at 7-3 West Virginia Friday and then closes the season with Syracuse, which is at home against 7-3 Cincinnati this Saturday. South Florida has 6-5 Louisville and then West Virginia, both at home. South Florida is the key team here, because either Pitt or Syracuse will be bowl-eligible after they play each other, if not before.
