Big East Rivals Collide in the Carrier Dome: Georgetown Hoyas at Syracuse Orange

Syracuse Mention

When Gerry McNamara led Syracuse to the Big East tournament title as a ninth seed in 2006, it was the first time that a team seeded that low won the tournament since it began in 1980.

“Finally someone won it that had to win four games, but it took a quarter of a century,” Howland said.

Syracuse University’s Jim Boeheim would love it.

The Brunswick boys basketball team’s 2-3 zone is fairly basic, but it’s also extremely effective, as Elyria found out Tuesday in a 49-42 Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division loss to the Blue Devils.

“It’s like Syracuse,” Pioneers coach Brett Larrick said. “They run it all year long and they’re good at it. Their kids know how to cover for each other.”

I hope Flynn gets another run. Just not sold on his ability to defend. So I guess that makes him a perfect Knick candidate.

I dont know if I agree with the assessment in the Flynn article on the Lakers being the favorites. They say the Knicks may not be as aggressive because of the development of Jeremy Lin. The article and tweets I've read from Knicks reporters is that the continued setbacks of Baron Davis is the reasoning for the Knicks trying to trade for Flynn, to be the backup for Lin since Baron can't be counted on at this point.

Billy give love to 'Cuse after losing by 20 pts to KY. BD is right on about KY talent; but indicates 'Cuse is deeper and the zone will be something for CAL to worry about. This was a good thought process by Billy.

Here's a guy who thinks Kentucky is the team to beat:

If I had my druthers, (and I had to go to the bathroom when they passed out they druthers), I'd just pick the top 16 teams in the country and put them in four regionals. Run each region like an Olympic pool: make it a round-robin but play enough extra games to resolve any ties. The next week, have the Final Four but run it the same way. Other schools could be in other tournaments that would serve as bowl games.

Imagine a Final Four of Syracuse, Ohio State, Kentucky and North Carolina. They each play eachother and if two teams wind up 2-1, they play a championship game. That would be so far beyond awesome you couldn't see awesome in the rearview mirror. It would sure beat the mess we had last year.
