That Exit Penalities article on UCF ($7 million exit fee for CUSA, are you kidding me?) includes this blurb:

Conference USA also plans to enforce its exit rules, which means the earliest UCF could join the Big East would be for the 2013 football season.

If CUSA is going to hold tough to the schools it loses and hold them for two more years, that is not good news for Pitt and Syracuse fans who are hoping their schools can be liberated from the BE ASAP. The plan to add 6 schools is good news though. One would hope that if even 2 of the new schools could start in 2012, it would make it easier for Pitt and SU to leave a year early.

I still think both schools will leave early and promise to play some OOC games against remaining BE schools in football and basketball as part of the agreement.

I would think the old schools & the Big East hierarchy would want us out of Dodge ASAP. Why would they want Pitt or us grabbing the BCS berth & $$$?

One reason could be that the Big East football league cannot have a 2011 season right now. You need at least 8 members to have a league. Without SU and Pitt, they are down to 6.

From the basketball perspective, Syracuse is the biggest draw in the conference and the basketball schools would hate to lose the extra money that comes their way as a result of hosting the Orangemen. I am sure Pitt brings good crowds as well. In addition, losing Pitt and SU would probably result in less televised games on CBS and ESPN. And the BET in MSG will not sell out without the top draw and the #3 draw in the conference playing.
