SU Offers Class of 2015 Center Jessie Govan (PS; Waters)
Syracuse University already has three commitments from high school recruits in the Class of 2015. Now, the SU coaches have extended an offer to a highly-rated center in this year's junior class.
Jessie Govan, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound center out of Lancaster, N.Y., received a scholarship offer from Syracuse on Tuesday, according to both 247Sports.com and on Twitter via @TheRecruitScoop.
Govan apparently caught the attention of the Syracuse coaching staff at last weekend's Nike EYBL AAU event in Sacramento, Calif. Govan, who plays for the AAU club Team Lightning, had back-to-back performances of 22 points and six rebounds and 17 points and seven rebounds...

Derrick Coleman Offers His Take on Racism in the NBA/Handling of Donald Sterling (PS; Axe)
...
Coleman offered direct opinions to hosts Chris McManus and Steve Infanti about racism in the NBA, saying that he feels it goes beyond Sterling at the top levels of the league.
"I truly feel that a lot of (NBA) owners talk that way about us, being African-American whatever have you, the thing with Donald Sterling is he got caught on tape," Coleman said.
When asked byMcManus if Coleman felt there were at least a handful of owners in the NBA like Sterling, Coleman offered no doubt:
"No question," Coleman said. "Yes. Not even a second thought. That's just the world we grow up in. It is what it is. But until you are caught saying or doing something like that, that is when it becomes a problem. It is sad. Racism still exists."

Big O Tells Melo to Head to Houston (PS; Axe)

"I would leave today [if I were Carmelo]," Roberston said on SiriusXM NBA radio Thursday. "... Let me tell you why: wherever that kid has gone, when he was at Denver, they had a team that fooled around with the ball, fooled around with the ball, then all of the sudden when they needed a basket, threw it to Carmelo. Then, when he shot the ball, they said he shot too much. Then when he didn't shoot they said he didn't shoot enough."

Is SU Among College Basketball Royalty? (sujuiceonline.com; Stechschulte)
There are six teams viewed as the royalty of college basketball: Duke (4), Indiana (5), Kansas (3), Kentucky (8), North Carolina (5), and UCLA (11). The number in parentheses following each school’s name is their number of NCAA Tournament championships. Those six programs have combined to secure 36 of the 76 NCAA titles. They’ve also combined to be the national runner-up 23 times and ten of those losses came to one of the other schools on the list.
Each of those programs is in the top ten in all-time victories in college basketball and only Indiana is not in the top ten in Division I winning percentage. Four of the other five, in fact, are all in the top six in win percentage. The fifth and sixth teams? UNLV and Syracuse. (The Runnin’ Rebels, with 45 seasons in the books, have a much shorter Division One resume than the other schools in this discussion, who all have over 95 seasons in their respective record books). The Orange, who hopped in front of UCLA this season in winning percentage, is also fifth on that all-time wins list, having recently passed the 1,900-win plateau...

Getting to Know Peggy Pappas (SU Dance Team Member, Body Builder and Beauty Contestant (syr.edu; Kobland)
You won’t find one of the biggest fans of SU’s football and basketball teams sitting in the stands at the Carrier Dome. Most likely, you’ll find Peggy Pappas out on the court or the playing field.
“I do bleed orange,” said Pappas during a brief break in her schedule. Pappas is a member of the dance team, so finding some time (in between dance routines) to watch the football and basketball teams is no problem...
